For no apparent reason other than wanting to serve his Twitter followers, The Incredibles director Brad Bird yesterday unveiled a poster created but never used for his classic Pixar movie.

The poster was hand-painted by the “legendary” Robert McGinnis. His work includes Breakfast at Tiffany’s, a couple Batman films, and over 1,200 paperback book covers.

Bird never explained why Pixar ultimately decided to go with a different poster, but we’re glad he at least unveiled this nice work of art which depicts all of the story’s major and supporting characters:

Bird is an active user on Twitter. He also directed Ratatouille for Pixar and served as one of the big wigs inside the studio’s creative think tank (he’s credited for Toy Story 3, Brave, and other films as part of the “senior creative” team). This elite group of people in the tank serve as the studio’s brain trust; they come up with concepts and help sculpt Pixar’s longterm plans.

The Incredibles opened in November 2004 and went on to gross $631 million at the box office. There has been light talk of an Incredibles sequel – especially since the end of the original film left a wide opening for a sequel – but The Incredibles 2 is not on the horizon. At least not for the next few years.
