We are now one step closer to the long-awaited Incredibles 2, as the first teaser trailer dropped today.

It’s been more than a decade since Pixar’s The Incredibles was released in theaters and became a worldwide phenomenon, beloved by audiences and hailed as one of the greatest animated movies of the decade.

Incredibles 2 reunites director Brad Bird with the original cast of characters including Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson), Elastigirl (Holly Hunter), Violet (Sarah Vowell), Dashiell (Huck Milner), and Jack Jack.

The sequel was first announced way back in 2014 at the same time Pixar announced another sequel to Cars. After Cars 3 was released earlier this year, Pixar has finally set its sights on releasing Incredibles 2.

According to Disney, Incredibles 2 will put Helen in the spotlight as Mr. Incredible stays home to take care of the kids. The family, still unaware of the extent of Jack Jack’s powers, will face a new villain that poses a dangerous threat to both the Incredibles and the world.

The trailer answers the question that was looming over this sequel about whether there would be a time jump between the first film and this new sequel. The first film ended on a cliff-hanger with the Incredible family about to fight the Underminer.

While it seems that Incredibles 2 won’t pick up right where the last film left off, it appears that they will keep all the characters around the same age.

There’s no doubt that Incredibles 2 is one of the most anticipated movies of 2018. The film will give Disney and Pixar the opportunity to reintroduce these characters to a brand new generation of kids and draw in the audience that has grown up since the first film.

At a time when Marvel and DC are battling it out in their separate superhero universes, there is something refreshing about how it’s taken this long for a sequel to be made. It demonstrates a certain care for the story and the characters and concern for quality that will hopefully pay off when the movie hits theaters next year.

‘Incredibles 2’ hits theaters on June 15, 2018
