Update (4/15/19): In The Heights fans rejoice! Tony Award nominee Olga Merediz has officially signed on to appear in the upcoming big screen adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hit musical!

Miranda, who has been sharing official In The Heights movie casting news via his Twitter account, took to the social media platform on Monday (April 15) to share the good news with fans far and wide.

The tweet also revealed that Gregory Diaz and Jimmy Smits had also officially joined the cast along with Merediz.

“And now, I’m thrilled to announce some more #InTheHeightsMovie casting news,” tweeted Miranda. “Olga Merediz IS Abuela Claudia! Gregory Diaz IV IS Sonny! Jimmy Smits IS Kevin Rosario! See y’all uptown…More soon.”

Just a few months back a rumor was circulating that EGOT winner Rita Moreno would be taking on the role of Abuela Claudia in director Jon M. Chu’s adaptation.

Those rumors have since been shot down, and as cool as it would have been to see Moreno in the role, we’re sure everyone is in agreement that there’s no better Abuela Claudia than Merediz herself.

Merediz originated the role in the musical’s on and off-Broadway runs. Her performance earned her a nod at the 2008 Tony Awards in the Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical category.

Check out who else has officially joined the cast of the upcoming adaptation below!

Update (4/12/19): Looks like Stephanie Beatriz could also be joining the cast of the upcoming In The Heights movie.

According to Vulture, Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Stephanie Beatriz could be the next notable star to join the cast of the upcoming big screen adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In The Heights.

Currently, it’s being reported that Beatriz would assume the role of Carla if she signs on.

As exciting as it would be to see the B99 star join the cast, it should be noted that her casting has yet to be confirmed by the actress herself, or the studio.

With that in mind, we’ll be crossing our fingers that we get official confirmation soon!

News of Beatriz’s involvement in the project comes just one day after Miranda took to Twitter to unveil the three new confirmed cast members for director Jon M. Chu’s In The Heights adaptation.
