We lost SO MANY good people in 2016. But this Australian producer wasn’t one of them.

The 2017 Oscars’ In Memoriam video played while Sara Bareilles sang a heartbreaking rendition of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now.”

Carrie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds, Anton Yelchin and Gene Wilder were some of the many people whose names and faces came up on screen, and it was devastating.

But one of the artists pictured is actually alive and well!

The caption reads “Janet Patterson, costume designer,” and unfortunately the four-time Oscar nominee did indeed pass away in October 2016.

But the image, as was pointed out on Twitter by Australian filmmaker David Berthold, is actually of Jan Chapman, an Australian producer who is alive — and devastated by the mix-up.

In a statement to Variety, Chapman says:

“I was devastated by the use of my image in place of my great friend and long-time collaborator Janet Patterson. I had urged her agency to check any photograph which might be used and understand that they were told that the Academy had it covered. Janet was a great beauty and four-time Oscar nominee and it is very disappointing that the error was not picked up. I am alive and well and an active producer.”

What the heck, Oscars producers?!

Between this and the massive mix-up that faultily caused Warren Beatty to declare La La Land the Best Picture recipient before the mistake was corrected and Moonlight got the award, we have to wonder what went wrong…

It is also worth noting that while the video was made before the devastating announcement of Bill Paxton’s untimely death, he is included in the In Memoriam gallery on the Academy’s website.
