American Idol had Simon Cowell. The Voice has Christina Aguilera. They’re brutally honest and love to show off their chests. But while Simon Cowell was seen as the voice of reason during his stint on Idol, Christina’s getting a lot of hate for her opinions on The Voice. Why so much Xtina hate?

I’ll be honest. I’m all about Xtina. I grew up listening to her (still do) and, other than 2010’s unimpressive Bionic, own all her English-language albums. So it should come as no surprise that I am not up in arms with her comments on The Voice this season. Yes, she has directed most negative comments toward one Tony Lucca, and yes, she can be a diva, but here’s why it’s not a bad thing:

1. She’s not lying.

Xtina tells it like it is. Let’s be real here, Tony Lucca actually was “one-dimensional” and a bit boring compared to other contestants on the show. I’m not saying he doesn’t have a good voice, but he was forgettable. He was riding the Mickey Mouse Club wave, but wasn’t blowing people away with his performances.  That’s until Christina pointed it out. Let’s also recall that time she warned against making The Voice a popularity contest. She had a good point. Lucca has more than five times the number of Twitter followers than Juliet Simms. Let’s not even talk about how those numbers compare to Chris Mann’s or Jermaine Paul’s followers. The guy has an advantage, and she has a right to think it’s not fair.

2. She’s helping.

It wasn’t until real talk with Christina that Lucca kicked things into gear with “Baby One More Time.” Who actually remembers what he sang prior to that song? I don’t. Team Adam owes Xtina for the nudge in the right direction. Plus, isn’t that what judges are supposed to do? Give constructive criticism?

3. She’s unafraid.

It may not be what people like to hear, but everyone needs a person to express the unpopular opinions and spice things up a bit. It’s especially impressive when someone is gutsy enough to critique a friend (remember the battle rounds? before things turned sour between Lucca and Aguilera?). Whether she’s right or wrong, she makes people reconsider. The right has Rush Limbaugh. The left has Bill Maher. The Voice was bound to have one.

4. She stands up for women.

Never fear ladies, Xtina has our backs. Tony Lucca may have thought performing Jay-Z’s “99 Problems” during The Voice‘s final live performances was all in good fun, but with lyrics like “If you having girl problems I feel bad for you son/I got 99 problems but a b—h ain’t one,” it’s no doubt Xtina had something to say about it. There’s no way the “Can’t Hold Us Down” singer was going to take that well, especially if that songs was in any way directed toward her.

She might’ve gone a little overboard calling her artist Chris Mann “a real man who respects women” after knocking Lucca for singing a song she called “derogatory toward women,” but give her credit for being savvy in the art of not-so-passive aggression.

5. She says things like “doooooope!”

I haven’t heard the word “dope” used in conversation since – I can’t actually remember the last time someone used the word, but Christina brought it back when she described Juliet Simms’ voice after her performance of “Roxanne.” The girl is entertaining. We have to give her that.

How do you feel about Christina Aguilera’s judging on The Voice?
