Actress Lake Bell is making her triple-threat debut, writing, directing, and starring in the new comedy, In a World…. Today we got a look at the poster for the film.

“In a world” –the three words most commonly associated with movie trailers. The late great Don LaFontaine burned these words into the pop-culture memory bank when he became the most dominant trailer narrator of his generation.

In a World… tells the story of a female voice coach (Bell) who delves into the male dominated world of movie trailer voice-overs. Her unexpected success sets the scene for comedic journey of self discovery.

The movie premiered at Sundance to favorable reviews and garnered a Best Screenplay award for Bell.

A new interview with Entertainment Weekly features Bell’s thoughts about being a first time feature director and a new poster for the film (below).

Although we’ve seen that Bell has great comedic timing with her roles in Comedy Central’s Children’s Hospital and No Strings Attached, she has mostly played supporting roles up until now. Bell called upon Children’s Hospital castmates Rob Coddry and Ken Marino to costar in In a World… along with Comedy Central alum Demetri Martin.

Bell told EW that audiences may be surprised by Coddry and Martin’s performances in the film, saying, “I think Rob Corddry and Dmitri do really come off beautifully and trusted me to express themselves, certainly more emotionally than they have [in other films].”

She also tapped Nick Offerman (Rec and Parks), Tig Notaro, Geena Davies, and Fred Melamed (A Serious Man) to appear in the film.

Melamed plays Bell’s character’s father who is the newly crowned king of voice overs in the film. Of his performance, she says, “I cast him because I thought he was truly despicable and loving at the same time and so hilarious and heartbreaking. He’s just capable of doing that kind of complexity in comedic form.”

Coincidentally, Bell later found out that Melamed himself has done voice-overs for over 20 years, and was even part of a so-called “dream team” with LaFontaine.

In a World.. hits theaters in limited release on Aug. 9.
