This week, Hypable is spotlighting a brand new web series! Meet Lucifer himself, who aims to bring about the apocalypse in Imperium.

When you think web series, your brain might conjure up images of various Starkids, modern-day Jane Austen character incarnations, or more-or-less successfully recreated sitcom tropes.

But Kathryn Hazelton’s new series Imperium challenges the conventional amateur web series genre; it is a serious and dark show about Heaven, Hell, and the Devil himself who is trying to bring about the end of the world.

The series promises to address big, important questions about humanity and morality – and with Lucifer as our protagonist, who knows which side we’ll end up rooting for?

Supernatural fans in particular will appreciate the swagger actor Riz Ali brings to the part of Lucifer, and the way in which we are introduced to his ruthlessness and persuasion powers in the pilot episode.

There is a small Vampire Diaries connection as well: the part of Death is played by actor Scott Parks, who lent his face to Silas before he revealed his true self.

Imperium premiered only a few days ago, and so far only the pilot is available to watch:

While some aspects of the series can definitely be improved (the lead actor tends to muddle his words, making it hard to understand the otherwise well-written dialogue), we’re very intrigued with the concept of this series.

It’s a big topic – Lucifer recruiting the Four Horsemen to challenge God and bring about the apocalypse – but with a high production value and impressive special effects, it is entirely possible for the series to actually set all that in motion.

Plus there are some absolutely golden bits of dialogue, like this masterpiece: “Everything dies. Even evil.”

Stay tuned for the second episode of Imperium, which is currently in production.
