Fun fact: J.K. Rowling wrote the Ilvermorny school song for Fantastic Beasts, but tragically, it was cut from the final movie.

“Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hoggy Warty Hogwarts, teach us something please!” We all remember J.K. Rowling’s iconic Hogwarts school song, which originally appeared in the first Harry Potter book. It was even filmed for the Goblet of Fire movie to welcome the Durmstrang and Beauxbatons students, but the scene was cut:

Ilvermorny has a school song as well, but it did not make the final cut of Fantastic Beasts (school songs are cursed, aren’t they?) Remember Jacob (Dan Fogler) clapping and telling his friends he wants to be a wizard in promo videos? That impromptu line followed Queenie and Tina’s performance of the song.

We’ll have to wait until the Fantastic Beasts DVD/Blu-ray is released to experience the song (it’s not even in the official “Original Screenplay” book, by the way!) But if you can’t wait until then, here’s some good news: During an interview, actress Alison Sudol (Queenie) decided to sing a bit of Ilvermorny’s school song. Skip to the 50-second mark in the interview below to see it:

The first verse of the Ilvermorny school song, as sung by Alison Sudol:

We stand as one, United
Against the Puritans.
We draw our inspiration
From good witch Morgan…

Sudol has a beautiful singing voice! We can’t wait to hear the longer performance on the Fantastic Beasts DVD/Blu-ray.

Perhaps the song will offer some insight into the school’s history. We’re immediately struck by the character Morgan. Who is he/she? The person is not referenced in Pottermore’s description of the school.

In case you’re curious, here’s the full Hogwarts School Song:

Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hoggy Warty Hogwarts,
Teach us something please,
Whether we be old and bald,
Or young with scabby knees,
Our heads could do with filling,
With some interesting stuff,
For now they’re bare and full of air,
Dead flies and bits of fluff,
So teach us things worth knowing,
Bring back what we’ve forgot,
Just do your best, we’ll do the rest,
And learn until our brains all rot

*Hums the tune all day*
