If there’s one thing we love more than talking about Teen Wolf, it’s seeing how we can find more ways to talk about Teen Wolf. Not to mention our love for Harry Potter. So what could be better than combining them?

It’s Teen Wolf Takeover month on Hypable.com, and today’s article takes a look at the main characters from the perspective of the Harry Potter Sorting Hat! Read all of our TWT articles here and submit your own!

Harry Potter gifted us with one of the greatest methods for thinking about characters… the Sorting. Every fandom from here to eternity will sort their characters into the Hogwarts houses, and will have fun debating where they think those characters fit best. Here are our thoughts on where we think the Teen Wolf characters would end up if Beacon Hills were Hogwarts.

Scott McCall

Gryffindor

This may be the easiest on the list to define. Scott is most clearly of all the characters a Gryffindor. As the Sorting Hat says in book 1, Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone, “You might belong in Gryffindor/Where dwell the brave at heart,” and there is no denying that the phrase “brave at heart” defines Scott McCall to a tee. His enduring need to save any and every one, whether or not they may be a danger to him is what makes him the clearest example of a Gryffindor that Teen Wolf has to offer.

Stiles

Ravenclaw

Stiles proved to be a little harder to sort. We’re pretty sure that if Stiles sat on the stool and donned the famous talking hat, it would not be an instantaneous sort. Stiles possesses many of the qualities that are valued by both Ravenclaw and Gryffindor in equal measure. In the end, we decided he best personified Ravenclaw as his curiousity and thirst to solve problems usually wins out over his better senses. While his need to solve and learn comes from a place of caring and concern for the lives and safety of others, it has also gotten him in trouble. In season 2 we saw Stiles match Gerard wit for wit after he was taken hostage, and while it resulted in him knocked out on the floor, he also managed to get closer to the answers they all needed. This is not to diminish his bravery, as he has more than proven that he is willing to do just about anything to keep his loved ones safe, including running full speed toward a very vulnerable Lydia on the Lacrosse field when Peter held her at his claws in season 1, but his desire to know and learn always seems to win out in the end.

Derek Hale

Gryffindor

Derek may not be as unflinchingly noble as Scott, but we still think he’d more than likely be a Gryffindor. Derek is nothing if not brave. He is never afraid to jump into dangerous situations to save his friends or pack members, and does not back down from a fight. He may possess qualities from other houses, including a few Slytherin-like qualities from time to time. But, he ultimately has a good heart and is looking to do what is right, furthering his own agenda. His good nature separates him from that pesky other member of his family who may or may not be dressing a little greener than Derek later in this list.

Erica Reyes

Slytherin

Erica may not be exactly, well, alive at the moment, but since it’s hard to believe that a character is good and dead (Peter anyone?) on Teen Wolf, we decided to sort her anyway. While there is no doubting her bravery as a werewolf, we think Erica would probably feel more at home with the Slytherins. She might not be Death Eater material, as she does tend to know the virtues of right and wrong, we also know that “the world isn’t split into good people and Death Eaters. We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.” We should know better than anyone that not all Slytherins are bad, and we think Erica would definitely fit into the not-so-completely-evil brand of Slytherin.

Lydia Martin

Ravenclaw

This was another easy call. If any character on Teen Wolf is supposed to be a Ravenclaw, it’s Lydia. While she may not be the humblest of creatures, she has an insatiable need to learn and her excellence in school is just the beginning. In the previous season, she sets herself the goal of winning the Fields Medal, a prize given for mathematics in the U.S., and no one doubts that one day she will do just that. If you add in her ability to read and translate archaic latin, the reasons become even clearer. Lydia was born to be a Ravenclaw.

Isaac Lahey

Hufflepuff

I know that in many instances people think of Hufflepuffs as the leftovers, but in this case, we don’t think there is anywhere else Isaac could belong. He struggled a lot as a child, as we saw at the beginning of season 2 when his father physically attacked him and when we later learned that he had, on occasion, been chained in a freezer in his basement. Despite all of that evil that he endured, he has managed to come out the other side with his humanity still intact. He is a loyal pack member to Derek throughout season 2, and remained loyal to finding and saving Boyd and Erica in season 3. Isaac never seems to know when to quit and works hard no matter what it is he is working toward. All of these qualities are shining examples of the perfect Hufflepuff. Helga would be proud to add such a shining example of Hufflepuff’s greatest qualities to her number.

Danny Māhealani

Gryffindor

Danny has been a fan favorite character since his debut in season 1, not only because he is absolutely fabulous in general, but because he was never afraid to stand up to Jackson when he was being a self-centered, egotistical jerk. Mostly due to that quality, we think Danny would be a Gryffindor. While he may not have a huge role in the werewolf side of things, his ability to stand up for himself and others when things are not going to plan is a unique quality for a teenager. The world of Teen Wolf is far more progressive and accepting than any typical high school setting, but even with that in mind, Danny is an upstanding teenager with a firm grasp on his own self-worth, and that is one-of-a-kind no matter how you look at it.

Alison Argent

Ravenclaw

If anyone on this show was to be a hat stall (which if you are not familiar, is when the Sorting hat literally cannot make up its own mind, and stops in the middle of its choosing) it would be Alison. She has equal parts bravery and intelligence. She is willing to throw herself in harm’s way to save a friend, like she did for Jackson and Lydia last season when Derek had decided to eliminate them both to solve the kanima problem, but is also smart and eager to learn. When the problem of translating the bestiary arose, Alison stopped at nothing to solve the mystery. In the end, we think she would end up in Ravenclaw, as her intellect tends to be her greater weapon… especially when there isn’t a bow around.

Vernon Boyd

Hufflepuff

We don’t know a lot about Boyd, but as we enter season 3, we think he would be most happy in Hufflepuff house. Boyd is not outspoken or the first to run interference, nor is he the seeker of truth or knowledge. He also doesn’t strike us as overly ambitious or cunning. Boyd falls into the other category. Hufflepuff is known as the house of acceptance, as the one to claim all those unclaimed. Boyd may display great bravery in later episodes, but since you get sorted at a much younger age and he didn’t become a werewolf until well after that, we believe he would have found himself a Hufflepuff.

Jackson Whittemore

Slytherin

We don’t know if we will be getting Jackson back in the near future. As far as we know he will not be making any appearances in season 3, but as he has been a pivotal part of the first two seasons, we thought it was poignant to also sort him. Jackson is clearly a Slytherin, not necessarily Death Eater or Lord Voldemort levels, but he is very focused on furthering his own agenda. It may have something to do with his lonely upbringing as an adopted only child of well-off parents, but as that is one of the most adept descriptors of the qualities of Slytherin house, it cannot be denied.

Peter Hale

Slytherin

It wouldn’t be any sort of list if there wasn’t at least one Slytherin, and Beacon Hill’s resident Slytherin would have to be Peter Hale. He is ambitious, smart, resourceful, and most of all, selfish. Peter is never going to put the welfare of others before himself. He is most concerned with making sure that he has what he wants, especially if you recall, well, all of the first season. Peter-the-alpha plagued Beacon Hills, particularly Scott McCall, until he got what he wanted. He hurt people, killed people, and wreaked havoc in general on an otherwise peaceful town.

Would you have sorted them the same way?
