Idris Elba’s next starring role will be alongside Jonathan Majors in the Jay-Z produced, all-Black Western film The Harder They Fall for Netflix.

Idris Elba’s next starring role will be a bit more grounded than his turn as the so-called “Black Superman” of the recent summer blockbuster Hobbs and Shaw.

However, it looks like he won’t be leaving his villainous ways behind, as his role in the upcoming Western The Harder They Fall likewise has him pegged as the movie’s central antagonist.

The all-Black Western follows outlaw Nat Love, played by Jonathan Majors, who rounds up his old gang to help him seek revenge when he discovers that the man — played by Idris Elba — who killed his parents two decades ago is being released from prison.

Jonathan Majors, known for his work in Captive State, White Boy Rick, and Lovecraft Country, is set to play the lead, while Idris Elba — whose recent roles include Hobbs & Shaw, In the Long Run, and the TV series Turn Up Charlie and Luther — will step in as the antagonist.

Jeymes Samuel, the singer-songwriter known as The Bullitts, is directing from a script he co-wrote with Boaz Yakin, who wrote Safe and Now You See Me. It will mark his directorial debut. Samuel is likewise producing alongside Lawrence Bender, James Lassiter and Jay-Z.

In addition to his directing and producing duties, Samuel will also be teaming up with Jay-Z to write and produce original music for The Harder They Fall. The two are no strangers to working together on a soundtrack, as they were likewise responsible for collaborating on The Great Gatsby soundtrack.

According to Variety, The Harder They Fall is expected to take a similar approach to incorporating music as The Great Gatsby.

No word yet on when the movie will be released, but seeing as Idris Elba has quite a busy schedule ahead of him (his upcoming movies are Cats, The Suicide Squad, Concrete Cowboys, and Three Thousand Years of Longing, written and directed by George Miller), it seems like we’ll have to wait a bit for this one.
