Idris Elba has just booked a starring role in a thriller that looks to be quite promising.

According to Variety, Idris Elba will star in Bastille Day, a thriller that is set around terrorism.

Elba will play the main role in Bastille Day as an operative for the United States who deals with a young boy believed to be the cause of a terrorist attack on the Paris metro. Elba’s character interrogates the young boy and eventually makes him disappear so the U.S. does not look bad. This doesn’t stop the attacks, however, and Elba’s character realizes the kid isn’t behind them and is probably the only link to the actual attacker.

Bastille Day does not yet have a director, but the script was written by Andrew Baldwin. Baldwin is a fairly new screenwriter, as he has written a few screenplays for films that have not yet been released.

With this film, Elba takes another step in his climb to being one of Hollywood’s top leading men. His biggest role to date will be in the soon-to-be-released Mandela: A Walk to Freedom, one that is gaining him a lot of buzz to be recognized this awards season.

Elba also recently had big parts in Prometheus, Pacific Rim, and Thor: The Dark World. Elba’s publicist has denied his involvement in Jurassic World, but we have high hopes that he does indeed sign on for the new Jurassic Park movie.

Elba is perhaps best known for playing the titular role in Luther, an unbelievably fantastic drama from the BBC. There have been rumors that a movie, which would act as a prequel to the far too short series, could be made and there is little we want more.
