MTV is bringing back a classic television series with the help of Ice Cube.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, MTV Studios is currently working on a revival of its popular stop-motion animated series, Celebrity Deathmatch.

Ice Cube will serve as executive producer on the upcoming revival. He’ll also be a lead member of the voice cast on the new rendition of the series.

Though the show will be an MTV Studios production, the plan is to shop it around at other networks, similar to what they did with the recent revival of The Real World, which in turn was picked up by Facebook Watch.

The original iteration of Celebrity Deathmatch ran in 1998 to 2002 for a total of six seasons comprised of 93 episodes. The stop-motion series pegged animated versions of celebrities in the limelight squaring off against each other in the boxing ring.

Though the series was a big hit in the late ’90s and early ’00s, previous attempts at reviving the show haven’t gained nearly as much steam. The first revival, which aired on MTV2, ran for just one year between 2006 and 2007.

The studio attempted to revive the show back in 2015 as well, and though a pilot was filmed, the network passed on it.

This time around, however, it sounds as though MTV Studios are going full steam ahead with their plans to bring the series back.

In a statement released on Wednesday (December 5), MTV president Chris McCarthy spoke of how excited everyone is for the return of the series.

“We’re excited to grow our partnership with Ice Cube and Cube Vision to reimagine this fan favorite,” said McCArthy. “Deathmatch was the meme before memes, remains a hot topic on social media and will be a smart, funny way to tackle the over-the-top rhetoric of today’s pop culture where it belongs — in the wrestling ring.”
