Ian Somerhalder’s Vampire Diaries days may be behind him, but thanks to the new Netflix series V-Wars, his vampiric adventures certainly aren’t.

Netflix is bringing the IDW series, V-Wars, to life after a ten-episode, straight-to-series order. Ian Somerhalder is set to star in the new show.

Somerhalder will play Dr. Luther Swann, a man whose life is turned upside down when his best friend, Michael Fayne, is plagued by a disease that turns him into a predator who feeds on other humans. This disease slowly begins to spread through humankind, and society begins to splinter into the ranks of those who are human and those who are vampires. As Dr. Swann fights to find answers and a cure, Fayne begins to rise up the ranks of the vampires.

The show is based on the popular IDW franchise of the same name and is written by New York Times best-selling author Jonathan Maberry. As The Hollywood Reporter states, William Laurin and Glenn Davis (creators of 1-800-Missing) will be the showrunners for the Netflix series. Brad Turner of Stargate and Stargate Atlantis will direct and executive produce.

In addition to starring in the show, Somerhalder is set to direct an undisclosed number of episodes in the show’s premiere season. Of course, this isn’t his first time in the director’s chair. Somerhalder directed three episodes of Vampire Diaries in 2015, 2016, and 2017.

Netflix is continuing to bring fascinating, original programming to the streaming service, and we’re so excited to see them dip a bit more into the world of the supernatural. Plus, with The Vampire Diaries ending in 2017 and The Originals coming to an end, we were in dire need of some more vampire shows to watch.

There’s no word on when V-Wars will premiere on Netflix, but we’ll keep you updated as more news breaks on the show!
