Before we get to see Ian McKellen sing and dance in Beauty and the Beast, we’ll see him solve iconic mysteries in Mr. Holmes.

Sir Ian McKellen is set to star in the BBC film Mr. Holmes, which sees Sherlock Holmes retired and holding a bee farm, but deciding to solve one last mystery.

Directed by Bill Condon (who’ll also be directing Beauty and the Beast, in which McKellen will play Cogsworth), Mr. Holmes is set in 1947 England, and sees Sherlock living with his housekeeper and detective son (or grandson).

When he finds himself haunted by an unsolved case from 50 years ago, Sherlock must assemble the pieces of his scattered memory to finally put the case to rest. The movie also stars Laura Linney, Frances de la Tour, Patrick Kennedy, Hattie Morahan and Milo Parker.

In the trailer, Sherlock Holmes explains that while his old friend Watson wrote his stories, “he changed the ending.” Now, it’s time for Sherlock to revisit his last, unsolved case, and tell the world the true story of Sherlock Holmes.
