As any fan worth their salt could tell you, the brand new Avengers trailer hit the web like a force five hurricane early this morning. The trailer was described by the fans (including some of you commenting on Hypable) as “epic”, “incredible”, “orgasmic” and “Oh. My. FREAKING. AWESOME!”, but some of us have nothing better to do than watch the thing over and over again. All day. Anyway, here are some quick moments that you may not have noticed in the fast-paced trailer.

For those of you that somehow missed the release of the extraordinary trailer, we’ve provided it below for your slow-motion-oh-my-goodness-what-was-that pleasure. Thanks to CBM for making some of the points mentioned below! Enjoy!

#10 Thor Fights The Avengers in Asgard

Okay, we’ll level you with you. We don’t have confirmation that this is Asgard, but the mysterious forest that we’ve been watching the Avengers brawl in looks a little too expansive and atmospherically spooky to really take place on Earth. The picture above is a particular example of how other-worldy the forest looks and feels.

True, we know that the Avengers will travel around the Earth in the film, but since Thor seems to be fighting Iron Man and Captain America it seems likely that it may have something to do with them obtaining him for the Avengers Initiative.

Do you think that this encounter is taking place on Asgard? How about an unspecific extra-dimensional realm detailed in Thor? We know that when we last saw Thor, he was still on Asgard, so this might be the answer to the “how does Thor get back to Earth” problem.

#9 International Badass Maria Hill

People that are unfamiliar with Colbie Smulders on How I Met Your Mother might have missed the actress’ face standing next to Agent Coulson at the S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters. Smulders was cast early last year as the hardened S.H.I.E.L.D. agent (and occasional director of S.H.I.E.L.D.) Maria Hill. We only got a glimpse of her and we still haven’t really gotten a feel for her character yet, but we hope that Whedon keeps her just as sharp as she was in the comics.

#8 Thor Landing on the Quinjet

Although some may argue that it just seems to be cinematic trickery to make it seem like Thor is landing on the Avenger’s aerial base, it certainly seems to be the Quinjet that the God of Thunder is landing on. Is this before he has decided to give his loyalty to the Avengers? Is he under Loki’s control? We know that Loki’s fighting style is based around “mindgames”, so could Thor be acting under Loki’s influence? Is he just fixing a broken engine?

#7 Black Widow Kicking Hawkeye

Yup, we would recognize those bow-straps and veiny forearms anywhere. This is definitely Hawkeye that Black Widow is giving the old foot sandwich to. There seems to be alot of Avenger VS Avenger action in the film, and especially in this trailer. Who do you think comes off better in this Superhero Showdown? Is this another case of Loki taking control? If so, who is he taking control of? Hawkeye or Black Widow?

#6 Black Widow getting chased by Hulk

Poor Black Widow just can’t catch a break can she? This might be the result of that scene that was leaked a full year ago, but it’s safe to assume that the Hulk has completely lost control in this scene. He seems to be ripping through the Helicarrier and chasing Black Widow.

We heard from Mark Ruffalo that we’ll see different stages of coherence from the Hulk, but this seems to be the more uncontrollable end of Banner’s alter-ego. Unless…is he under Loki’s control? Who isn’t under Loki’s control?

#5 Thor trapped in the Hulk cage

This might give us an idea of how Loki got out of his cage. We’ve seen Loki trapped in this very same area (that we assume was built for the Hulk based on the footage presented at D23) and it might be possible that he breaks out by either exploiting Thor’s brotherly love or outsmarting him into getting into the cage.

Of course, this might be a completely different scene all-together. Would the Avengers ever have a reason to put Thor in the Hulk cage? Looks like the glass can barely contain the power of Mjolnir!

#4 The Mysterious Glow Around S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters

Everyone noticed the fancy shiny helicopter, but who noticed the mysterious transparent blue wave that seems to be engulfing the S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters? What could be causing this? Is it the inter-dimensional beings that seem to be attacking New York? Is it the power of the Cosmic Cube? Has Loki taken control of it? He’s seems to be taking control of everything else, so he might as well!

#3 Close-Up Of The Aliens From Behind

We’ve seen alot from Loki’s army in the past couple of trailers, particularly from their ships that look like aerial Sea-Doos. Like regular Sea-Doos, much of their front is obscured by the vehicle, but this close from behind reveals very humanoid yet reptilian skeletal structures and scaly skin shielded by dark armor. The effects look great on these guys, it looks like Whedon used those motion capture suits to their full potential!

#2 Iron Man is Flying Towards A Portal

When the Superbowl commercial finally hit the airwaves, legions of people started referring to “that scene with Iron Man flying toward that mothership”. If you look closely, you’ll see that the looming darkness isn’t a solid mother-ship, but a cloudy vortex instead.

The alien beings seem to be originating from the cloudy abyss and the beam of light shooting from it suggests that it has something to do with either the Cosmic Cube or one of Asgard’s inter-dimensional travel tricks.

#1 The Leviathan

We know, it’s a pretty hard thing to miss, but I don’t remember the last time my jaw physically dropped open while watching a movie trailer. Some have criticised it for looking “too Transformers-y” which is understandable since the similarities are uncanny.

The point is that the Visual Effects work on the beast looks stunning, and based on a call sheet unearthed a few months ago, it seems that this is “The Leviathan.” Where did it come from? Another dimension? Is it Loki’s invention? Is it an alien creature? Is it strictly machine? HOW IS IT FLYING? How will they defeat it?

Overall, fans have agreed that the new trailer is phenomenal. What was your favorite scene? Is there anything else that we missed? Let us know in the comments below!
