Seemingly all of Hollywood is off this week as they take a well-deserved (?) break for Christmas and New Years.

With news being as slow as it is, we thought now would be a good time to make clear our spoiler policy and get your feedback on it as well.

At least once a week we’re hearing from someone who was disappointed by a spoiler that appeared on the site.

To make it clear: We only blatantly spoil when a plot point has been “broadcast” by the show/book/film itself more than 24 hours ago. Additionally, we won’t write a spoiler in a headline or lead unless – again – it was broadcast more than 24 hours ago. If it’s a particularly large spoiler (like a character death), we’ll wait a couple extra days before mentioning it in the headline, lead, or image for the news post. You CAN see the spoiler by clicking through to the full story.

So if Breaking Bad’s Gus died way back on October 9th, 2011, you can bet we’re going to use an awesome photo from his death on December 27th, 2011. When someone wins a competition like The X Factor, you won’t see who the winner is on the main page for at least 24 hours unless you click through to the full story.

We understand that sometimes people cannot watch a television episode as soon as it airs, but at the same time we need to cater to the fans who DID see it live or hours after it happened.

We’re open to modifying this policy. Feel free to sound off in the comments and we’ll be more than happy to take your thoughts into consideration.
