Every week, the staff here at Hypable are moved by the high quality performances in movies and television, and now we bestow upon them the highest form of admiration we can muster: Hypable Honors.

There is so much incredible, creative work going on week in and week out that goes unnoticed. Here is our chance to remedy the situation. Need a new show to watch? Looking for a recommendation? Every great series starts with at least one great performance, so this is a perfect place to start.

Drama

Show: ‘The Walking Dead’

Actor: Melissa McBride

The week started off with a very strong contender and no one quite managed to meet her brilliance. When Carol was forced with an impossible situation, Melissa McBride stepped up to the plate and delivered one of the most tender, gut-wrenching moments ever on The Walking Dead.

It’s not as if we hadn’t been building up to this moment for a while. Even casual Walking Dead viewers could tell you that Lizzie’s story wouldn’t have a happy ending, but the inciting incident and the manner in which the end was delivered was a story-telling one-two punch to the gut.

Following the horrific scene, Carol cleared the air between her and Tyrese, putting her fate in his hands. In that moment, McBride convinced us all that Carol deserves another chance to prove herself. She is not a killer at heart, just a woman willing to do what is necessary to survive.

Show: ‘The Walking Dead’

Actor: Brighton Sharbino

While Lizzie’s story may not have been as sympathetic as others, including that of her fictional sister, Mika, the actress portraying her had us empathizing with her beliefs about walkers. Right up until the very end, Brighton Sharbino had us trying desperately to find common ground with Lizzie, which is no small feat on a show like The Walking Dead. Sharbino has a bright future ahead of her, and we can’t wait to see where she’ll pop up next.

Show: ‘Scandal’

Actor: Joe Morton

Olivia’s father has brought twists and turns galore since he first appeared on Scandal at the beginning of this season, but his speech to his daughter in last night’s episode brings a whole new layer to his character. Joe Morton delivered a beautifully written speech about what the personal cost of being Command truly is. It forced Olivia to understand that no matter who sits in that chair, injustice will continue. Joe Morton’s character has given Olivia a new reason to don her white hat and fight the good fight again.

Movie: ‘Divergent’

Actor: Jai Courtney

Jai Courtney brought Eric and all his intensity straight from the pages of Divergent onto the big screen, and he managed to make him just as frightening as we all imagined. It’s no easy feat, bringing someone as stoicly terrifying as Eric to life without making him comically evil. After all, if book Eric had a mustache, we’re pretty sure he’d be twirling it, a lot. Jai Courtney manages to turn his character’s blind loyalty to the governing body into a dynamic personality trait. Anyone who has read Insurgent knows that there is much more to come for this character, and we are anxious to see Courtney embody his every moment.

Comedy

Show: ‘Enlisted’

Actor: Parker Young

If you haven’t been tuning in on Friday nights to see the Hill brothers living life in their Rear Detachment unit at Fort McGee on Enlisted, you have been missing out on a truly fun new show. Watching the hilarious daily lives of these three soldiers and their rag tag troop brings some serious laughs and more than a few surprises. None of those surprises is happier than the youngest brother, Randy Hill.

In this past Friday’s episode, he and his brothers were forced to help a couple of old-timers right an old wrong that had been done to a buddy of theirs. Parker Young really shone throughout this episode, as his simpleton ways delivered charming moment after charming moment. He found an appreciation for hats he had never found before, and he helped his curmudgeonly brother, Derek, to find the courage to ask out the bartender. Randy never disappoints, but really shone for all his comedic glory this time around.

Show: ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’

Actor: Andy Samberg

Week in and week out, Samberg has turned Detective Jake Peralta into a lovable miscreant that we all wish we could high five at the end of a long day. This week’s episode showed him conquering unsolvable cases, setting records, and bonding with his co-workers all in an effort to distract himself from the bigger problem. He ultimately failed to distract himself effectively, but it was so much fun watching him try. Not to mention he quoted Hairspray.

Show: ‘Mom’

Actor: Octavia Spencer

Regina has been a great recurring character throughout Mom‘s first season, and we all had a great time watching our favorite characters take some time away from their personal drama to help a friend get her affairs in order, before going behind bars for a few years. We don’t know what the future of Regina’s story is on Mom, but we would be totally fine if she got off early for “good behavior.”

Show: ‘Two Broke Girls’

Actor: Beth Behrs

Two Broke Girls may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the ladies that steer this ship do a fabulous job. One in particular, Ms. Beth Behrs, truly shined this week as her character put on her brave face and went out with the diner crew for St. Patrick’s Day. Amongst rude patrons, Han dressed as an adorable leprechaun, and Max’s never ending quips, Behrs’ Caroline never let the craziness get to her. She took it all in her stride and managed to turn a potentially mortifying night out with her coworkers into one she will never forget.
