Another week, another collection of gruesome deaths, life altering events, and more. Must be April on television. We did however get a few outstanding performances this week that are deserving of this week’s Hypable Honors.

The goodbyes just keep on piling up as this week, Parks and Recreation closed its doors on season 6 and we all cry silent tears knowing that it will be another 6 months until we get to see Leslie Knope and company on our screens again.

We did, however, have a couple of performances that needed some serious recognition, so here are this week’s selections for Hypable Honors. While last week was a bit of a boys club, this week the ladies have jumped front and center.

Drama

Show: ‘Agents of SHIELD’

Actor: Chloe Bennet

It’s been a remarkable couple of weeks for Agents of SHIELD, and many who had written the drama off as formulaic and boring have had their words served up to them in humble pie. HYDRA’s hostile takeover of SHIELD in the Marvel Universe opened the show up to an entirely unforeseen future where friendly agents true allegiances are revealed, and allies question everything they’ve ever known.

One absolute standout in this new world order is Chloe Bennet as Skye. This week’s episode showed her making a gruesome discovery and ultimately realizing that her closest friend, ally, and S.O. is a HYDRA spy. Even if you paid no attention to her character up until now, the scene in the bathroom when she has a minor breakdown over Ward’s treason was heartbreaking.

Our hearts broke as he realized that keeping her discovery a secret was her best option and she hurried to dry her eyes and hide her shock. She then put on a very convincing face and got on the Bus with Ward on a trip she may not see the end of.

Otherwise Noteworthy

Show: ‘Arrow’

Actor: Susanna Thompson

If you haven’t been watching Arrow you really should start. Not only is the Green Arrow show kicking major comic book series ass, it is also putting up remarkable performances week after week. It’s hard not to want to just give them the gold week in and week out, but we somehow manage. This week, Susanna Thompson’s portrayal of Moira Queen was stand out. Not only did she show true courage in an impossible situation, but she also displayed motherly instincts in the flashbacks that could have come off as sinister, but instead were heartfelt and full of love.

We will miss seeing Susanna on our screens every week as the stunning Queen matriarch, but her final episode gave the actress a perfect avenue to stun us all one last time.

Show: ‘The Following’

Actor: Valorie Curry

While she was always on the wrong side of the law, Valorie Curry was an increasingly convincing sociopath week after week on The Following and she is sure to be missed by everyone after her character’s death this past week. That is, if she truly is dead. You can never be too sure when you’ve got a strategic mastermind like Joe Carroll calling the shots.

Emma has always been one of the most intriguing characters on the show, starting as a friend to Claire who quickly showed her true colors as a member of the cult. Over her two seasons on the show, Valorie Curry has given Emma amazing depth for a character as misguided and tortured as she was. If she isn’t truly gone, we will be happy to see her again, but if she is, it has been a pleasure watching you. Wow, that sounded creepy.

Comedy

Show: ‘Modern Family’

Actor: Ty Burrell

There will never be a moment in which we do not want Phil Dunphy in our lives. He brings the funny week in and week out on Modern Family and there are simply not enough words to describe our love for this man and his remarkable ability to be a clueless, yet unbelievably sincere father and husband. The Dunphy clan is extremely lucky to have a man like him at the helm of the ship.

Ty was particularly great in this week’s episode, “Australia” because of Phil’s determination to have a great trip to Australia despite all the unfortunate things that keep happening to him. While his will to have fun was tested, the reveal at the end of the episode proved that Phil is just too cool for school. Australia is cruelest to its people, and by surviving its assault, he is a proven Australian. Cheers for Phil!

Show: ‘Parks and Recreation’

Actor: Amy Poehler

She is great every single episode as Leslie Knope, but this week’s season finale of Parks and Recreation was truly spectacular. She had a tough decision to make in regards to moving away for a new job with the National Parks system, but she had us all in stitches the entire episode.

Particularly funny was her scene with First Lady Michele Obama as Leslie couldn’t contain her excitement long enough to stop yelling in the First Lady’s face. We have always, and will always love Leslie Knope, but she reminded us in this week’s episode that no matter how long the summer hiatus may seem, when she returns, we will all be watching.

Show: ‘About a Boy’

Actor: David Walton

You may recognize David Walton from his brief stint on Parenthood or from Fired Up! or one of his many other great projects, but his role as Will Freeman on About a Boy is charming and funny.

Will’s relationship with Fiona has a long way to go until it’s, well, functional, but his friendship with her son Marcus is what makes the show so much fun, and is probably why the show is called About a Boy. He and Marcus have a special and most adorable bond.

This week’s episode showed Will trying desperately to keep his buddy from using Fiona, and while he may not have come off as sincere at first, his speech to Lori’s game night crowd was both hysterical and sweet. This show is just starting to get its feet and we are definitely keeping an eye on it as it ascends to greatness.
