As winter shows close up shop, it’s nice to have some good drama to heat things up while it’s blisteringly cold in half the country. Check out this week’s selections for Hypable Honors.
We don’t have many episodes of How to Get Away with Murder left in season 1, but they are definitely pulling out all the stops. Whether it’s guest stars or regulars, they are lighting up the screen. The other show represented this week, The Originals, brought an absolutely spectacular moment to a character that we learn more about every time he’s resurrected, but we really liked this incarnation.

Hypable Honors
Show: ‘The Originals’
Actor: Daniel Sharman
It may be a bit of a mind-bender to have the Original siblings jump in and out of different bodies once or twice a season, but we couldn’t be happier with Kol’s most recent host, as it has graced us with the talents of Daniel Sharman. These last few episodes of The Originals gave Daniel a chance to sink his teeth into some incredibly volatile scenes with Joseph Morgan, and he blew us away.
Kol has always been the bystander of the family, never being a part of the Klaus-Rebekah-Elijah “Always and Forever” clan, but not really fitting in with Finn either. He has always yearned to be valued by his siblings, and it seems that he finally got a chance to prove his talent.
Klaus and Kol’s fierce battle last week was one thing, but watching the Mikaelson trio fully embrace the youngest brother when he needed it most was enough to have even the toughest of fans tearing up a bit. We’ve said goodbye to Kol Mikaelson before, but it wasn’t nearly as upsetting as watching him fade away at the hands of his own brother’s hex. Kol may return again, but it will most likely not be in the form of Daniel Sharman, and that is the true loss here.
Show: ‘How to Get Away with Murder’
Actor: Cicely Tyson
The only woman who could possibly be more formidable than Annalise Keating would be her mother, and that’s exactly what we got when Cicely Tyson came to visit this week on How to Get Away with Murder. She reminded us of just how fiery a woman Annalise can be, especially since she’s been a little less than vibrant in the wake of Sam’s death and Nate’s arrest.
The incredibly wonderful performance from Cicely Tyson revealed a lot about Annalise’s past, and the horrors that have haunted her and her mother. The scene between Viola Davis and Cicely Tyson in which the latter is brushing her daughter’s hair was particularly moving, as we not only got some resolution to the claims that Annalise made earlier in the episode, but we discovered that her mother may be the only woman as intense as our fearless leader.
We are more than grateful to have had Cicely Tyson grace our screens for a week that we could possibly verbalize, and there is no doubt that the show is stronger for it. Hopefully we will get a chance to see her again, and as soon as possible.
