As Fall trudges forward toward that inevitable hiatus season (shh! don’t let it hear you!), we chose to honor two of our favorite new leads in this week’s Hypable Honors.

There are few shows that can exist without a dynamite lead heading the show. This week’s selections for Hypable Honors are just that, two absolutely outstanding leads that anchor their brand-spanking new shows with gusto.

These two talented individuals prove that a show doesn’t need to be airing on a premium cable channel to be good, especially when it comes to winning the day, either in court or on the streets of Central City.

Hypable Honors

Show: How to Get Away with Murder

Actor: Viola Davis

Whether she’s saving the day or getting her way, Annalise Keating is nothing if not a formidable opponent. Both in and out of the courtroom, you don’t want to face off against this powerhouse. This week’s episode showed just how conniving and manipulative she can be. While her students are trying to find a way to help a young man who shot his father to protect his mother, she is running around trying to figure out two things: A) Is my husband a murderer as well as a cheater? and B) How can I keep him from being involved in the case of the murdered girl who has a picture of his member on her phone?

No matter how intricate the plot, Viola Davis always delivers on How to Get Away with Murder. Last week’s episode ended in spectacular fashion, but as that scene continued to begin this episode, we were drawn in by the intensity that Viola Davis just can’t help but radiate. Annalise is between a rock and a hard place as she attempts to unweave this insane web of lies and deceit spun by her husband. It became clear that it doesn’t really matter if she believes him or not, but whether or not she will fight for him.

Viola Davis can do no wrong, as her presence on our screens every week does more to sate our thirst for her talent. She commands your attention the minute her character steps into the scene. No matter what else may be going on around her, Annalise Keating will always handle her clients with poise and respect, even if that client is her own cheating husband with a dead girl’s body to show for it.

Show: ‘The Flash’

Actor: Grant Gustin

Grant Gustin has been knocking our socks off with every new episode of The Flash in its premiere season. The show is chock full of heart and fun, thanks to a very talented writing staff and one incredibly talented lead. Barry Allen is a righteous and dedicated hero, two qualities that can become stale fast in a superhero show. Gustin has kept those qualities warm and intriguing in the show’s first three episodes.

This episode was an incredibly important one for Barry, as he and Joe began their journey to saving his father from prison. Grant managed to not only show us the incredible emotional implications of Barry’s father-figure, Joe, not only believing him, but wanting to do everything in his power to help, but also to help us connect to the struggles that Barry will be facing day in and day out as the Streak in Central City.

There are huge things on the horizon for this show: a host of incredibly talented individuals descending upon it (Wentworth Miller, Victor Garber, Robbie Amell, and Dominic Purcell for starters), a massive crossover event for The Flash and Arrow, and further development for the bond Felicity Smoak and Barry Allen forged last fall when Barry showed up in Starling City.

Grant Gustin has already proven that he has what it takes to lead this incredible cast of characters, and now we can all just sit back and enjoy the show.
