What. A. Week. There has been some seriously fabulous TV this week (May 1-8), and some performances that are seriously knocking our socks off. Check out this week’s selections for Hypable Honors.

This week’s goodbyes included The Mindy Project, New Girl, Resurrection, and The Tomorrow People, the last of which is a permanent goodbye (*dries tears*). While always sad to have to leave our fictional best friends for a couple of months, at least we know most of them will be there again in the fall.

Finale season always means that the stakes are higher, the tension is at its most unbearable, and shocking truths come to light, all of which lends itself to more than amazing performances. We managed to pick out a few of our favorites across the board for this week’s Hypable Honors.

Drama

Show: ‘Once Upon a Time’

Actor: Lana Parilla

Regina has been a goldmine of a character for Lana Parilla. Not only did she get to spend the majority of the first 2 seasons as the evil queen, hellbent on destroying classic fairytale characters’ happiness among other things, but now she gets to try on her hero shoes.

Regina was the only person who could defeat the Wicked Witch, Zelena, and she could only do so by summoning every drop of belief in herself she had, and channeling the light magic inside of her. We have been watching Regina’s growth all season long, and cheering her on as she has proven herself a trustworthy ally, but none of us expected this much greatness this soon.

Lana should be commended for changing our minds about evil queens. They might seem determined to destroy everything good in the world, but a look back at their past can reveal all kinds of torment and heartache that has brought them to their current place. Regina could have been a caricature of what evil queens have been billed as for the last century, but instead, she has kept her real, heartbreakingly determined, and ready for anything. And now that she’s on the right side of things, we can’t wait to see what she’ll do next.

Otherwise Noteworthy

Show: ‘Arrow’

Actor: Emily Bett Rickards

Every award to Ms. Bett Rickards! Her portrayal of Felicity Smoak week in and week out on Arrow has always been brilliant, but as season 2 draws to a close, she has brought out all the stops. We are used to seeing Felicity kick a little digital ass as the resident IT wizard, but this week she took her skills to the street in “Streets of Fire.”

We cheered as she literally ran over Isabel Rochev, we pumped our fists in vindication when she yelled at Oliver to stop acting like a kicked puppy, and we worried greatly for her safety as looming threats to Oliver seem to be pointing ominously to Felicity. All the while, Emily has shocked us with overwhelming dedication to every scene she’s in, and bringing many of our favorite moments to life. Stephen Amell has said in interviews that they could not make the show without Felicity Smoak and we couldn’t agree more. Not bad for a one-off IT girl character from season 1. Not bad at all.

Show: ‘Game of Thrones’

Actor: Sophie Turner

Book fans have been aching to see Sansa’s story get to its current location, and now that it’s here, we are so, so glad that Sophie Turner is our Sansa Stark. She perfectly embodied the haughty, holier than thou nature of Sansa in the first season, but has really stepped it up as Sansa suffered.

Now that Sansa is out of the immediate danger that is King’s Landing, there is an abundance of time and opportunities to learn what exactly this Stark girl plans for the rest of her life. Until now, Sansa has been reactionary, always trying to handle whatever life threw her way, but thanks to the kindness (or maybe more the twisted determination) of Petyr Baelish, Sansa has an opportunity to change her stars.

Watching her interactions with her Aunt Lysa, Sophie showed that Sansa’s frail and delicate appearance may have more grit behind it than originally thought. Lysa was cruel as she tried to painfully extract sordid tales from Sansa that don’t exist, but seeing Sansa realize that even her aunt seems capable of such mean-spirited meddling gave us yet another reason to keep pulling for Sansa Stark. When the smoke clears in Westeros, we will be happy if Sansa gets the vindication she deserves.

Comedy

Show: ‘Glee’

Actor: Chris Colfer

Chris Colfer impressed us on two fronts this week. Kurt was his normal, charming self on screen, but off screen Colfer was responsible for writing an engrossingly adorable and character-driven episode. His writing for Rachel, Santana, Mercedes, Sam, and Kurt was above and beyond what we could have imagined.

And who wouldn’t love seeing Kurt take on Peter Pan in an old folks home production of the classic play? Especially when it provided such great material for laughs. When you add in the dogs (especially that musical number at the end), and June Squibb, and all the stops that Chris Colfer brought out, we couldn’t be happier to see him don his writer’s hat for Glee.

In addition to being our beloved Kurt Hummel, we couldn’t be happier to see Chris find success in every aspect of his life. His career as an author is blooming quite beautifully, but he could also write for television and this episode proved that in spades.

Show: ‘Modern Family’

Actor: Sarah Hyland

Haley Dunphy provides laugh after laugh, but never more so than when she screws up over and over again. This week, she enlisted Alex and Luke to play a prank on their parents and, well, it didn’t turn out the way she thought, which is just par for the course for Haley. The Dunphy family wouldn’t feel complete without it’s eldest, wayward daughter, and Modern Family wouldn’t be the same without Sarah Hyland.

It takes all kinds to build a TV family, and thanks to Sarah Hyland, Haley has become our beloved older sister. We might not go to her for advice beyond fashion or flirting tips, but Sarah has given the supposed mean girl heart and compassion that makes her a truly sweet girl. Yeah, she still plays mean jokes and always has a less than snarky retort for Alex, but her antics are what make her a true favorite.

Show: ‘The Mindy Project’

Actor: Ike Barinholtz

On The Mindy Project there is one actor who ALWAYS brings the funny. No matter what may be going on or who may be insulting who, Ike Barinholtz’ Morgan is always good for a laugh. This week in particular as he calls Danny out on his “email Andy” antics using words like “thoughten,” finally putting a ring-tone on Tamra, and putting Danny in his place when he left his post at the Empire State Building, Morgan took the place of the fandom.

Morgan wants Mindy Lahiri to be happy more than we do, and he stops at nothing to try and make it happen. We entrust Ike Barinholtz’ Morgan Tookers with the responsibility of keeping Danny honest after the happily ever after moment in season 2’s finale. We know he is up to the task, and we can’t wait to see him in action for season 3.
