This week’s selections for Hypable Honors hail from a pair of superhero shows, but they aren’t exactly the ones donning masks or saving lives.

The two men that stood out for this week’s Hypable Honors both hail from superhero series, but neither of these guys is the kind to disguise his face and start jaunting around town fighting crime. While neither is going to win any costume contests, we can definitely still appreciate how they have helped to keep our favorite comic book series alive and well.

Check out this week’s selections for Hypable Honors and make sure to let us know who you think performed best this week in the comments below!

Hypable Honors

Show: ‘Arrow’

Actor: Paul Blackthorne

So, things have been a little rough for Capt. Lance as of late. One of his daughters was thoughtlessly murdered and the other decided it was best to keep it from him. When you add in that it most certainly seems that the Arrow has decided killing isn’t below him and that same lying progeny has joined the vigilante in donning a mask, there’s not a whole lot to be happy about these days.

No matter how badly things may be for Capt. Lance, Paul Blackthorne has continued to shine through the dark days. His performance in this week’s episode, “Public Enemy,” went above and beyond. He reminded us that while we may not be happy that Lance is making it impossible for Oliver to stay the Arrow, or even just stay free in Starling City, he isn’t acting this way without reason.

He’s a father mourning. He’s a police Captain, pissed about crime in his city. He’s a man worried about his family. There’s a lot of layers to Quentin Lance, and we couldn’t be more grateful that Paul Blackthorne is behind the wheel because he always manages to remind us that the man is only human, and that he is only trying to do what he thinks is best for all involved.

Thanks to that crazy intense trailer, we know there is a lot of crazy still remaining in Arrow season 3, but no matter how crazy things get, we know we can always count on Paul Blackthorne to keep Captain Lance as focused and fair as ever. Especially when his world rights itself after being topsy-turvy for so long.

Show: ‘The Flash’

Actor: Mark Hamill

One of the greatest strengths of The Flash‘s first season has been its guest stars. They’ve managed to get some truly great people to come on for short arcs including Andy Mientus, Dominic Purcell, and Wentworth Miller amongst other, and this week’s episode featured one of their best guests yet.

Those that know the history of The Flash on TV might remember that Mark Hamill played the Trickster back in the 1990s, and his return to the show was an honorable nod to the series that came before. He did a remarkable job of showing that despite the differences between the old and new shows, the powers that be behind this generation’s The Flash are still more than happy to cross a few things over from that which came before.

All honor and throwbacks aside, Hamill absolutely nailed his role in this week’s episode of The Flash season 1. He was bone-chillingly creepy when locked in his solitary cell talking to Detective West and Barry, and he only became more and more terrifying as the episode wore on.

We are so incredibly grateful that Mark Hamill was ready, willing, and eager to reprise his role, as he was a true treat to watch on screen. We were particularly amused by that whole, “I am your father” line (wink, wink).
