Many people may be familiar with the popular book series Alex Rider by Anthony Horowitz, which follows the adventures of a teen spy. After the release of the final installment of the Alex Rider series, many fans started to take notice of Horowitz’s other series, The Power of Five.

The first book in the five-book series is Raven’s Gate. Raven’s Gate follows the adventures of a 14-year-old Matt Freeman, who is committed for a crime he saw, but did not commit. In the end, he ends up taking part in something called the LEAF project instead of being put into jail, which is a government-run program where troubled teens are sent to live with a foster parent.

However, Matt’s troubles are far from over. He is sent to a town called Little Whining in the middle of nowhere, and his foster parent is anything but normal. On top of that, the whole town seems to be against him, and strange, evil things are happening all around him.

Although considered “teen fantasy,” the entire first half of Raven’s Gate is more of an eerie mystery. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, wanting to know exactly what’s going on in Little Whining. An exciting read with an action-packed ending makes Raven’s Gate a great read to pick up this summer.
