Perfect Scoundrels by Ally Carter is a fantastic read for anyone who loves a great heist book. Carter’s characters pop off the page and her storytelling is spot on.

Perfect Scoundrels is the third book in the Heist Society series. All the main characters are back including Kat, Hale Gabrielle, and the Bagshaw brothers. This time, however, one of their own is the target and Kat will do whatever it takes to save him. Hale has always been the rich boy living a con man’s life but suddenly that all changes when Hale’s real life returns to claim him. Kat can’t reconcile the guy she knows as Hale with the one known by his family as ‘Scooter.’ Things take a turn for the worse when Kat is given information leading her to believe that Hale is the target of a con. The action picks up as Kat and her crew take on a most devious opponent to try and save Hale.

Kat is delightful as always but in this book we see her more conflicted than usual. Fighting to keep Hale changes her game plan and she proves she’s human as mistakes are made along the way. Hale becomes a completely different person when he is in his world and as a reader you just want to shake him on occasion. The characters are rounded out by several familiar faces as well as some new ones. Silas is a particularly fun addition who looks like Colonel Sanders and seems to thoroughly enjoy what Kat’s family does.

This book is special for many reasons. The characters are fantastically written. As you read you feel like you are a part of the crew and you get who these people are. The plotlines are always exciting and well-developed. You never know what the end game is until Carter is ready to reveal it. This is a must-read series. The Heist Society novels are truly a great set of books for boys and girls, adult or young adult and Perfect Scoundrels is an excellent addition to the series.
