This week we will be featuring different aspects of the world of Beautiful Creatures leading up to the movie release on February 14. Today meet the characters that started it all.

Ethan Wate

The 16-year old narrator of the novel, a high school boy who only has one dream to leave Gatlin as soon as he graduates. Ethan has recently lost his mother and has a father who is primarily absent because he doesn’t know how to deal. Ethan began having dreams of a girl that turn out to be more than dreams. Lena Duchannes

A Caster girl who appears in Ethan’s dreams before suddenly moving to Gatlin. She must be claimed for either Light or Dark on her sixteenth birthday. “Amma” Treadeau

A seer who is like a grandmother to Ethan. She can communicate with her dead family who she calls the Greats. She is also the Librarian of the Mortal and Caster libraries. She was friends with Ethan’s late mother, Lila Evers Wate, and has known Ethan since he was born
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Macon Ravenwood

The town recluse and Lena’s uncle. He will do anything to protect Lena from the outside world and her mother Sarafine. Macon believes that Lena will not become dark despite several incidents that have occurred. Macon was also friends with Ethan’s mother, who has a history with casters.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Ridley Duchannes

Lena’s Dark Caster cousin who is a Siren. She has the ability to manipulate people with one look. Ridley works for Sarafine, and she goes out with Link in order to use him against Lena and Ethan. Wesley “Link” Lincoln

Emily Asher

Mrs. Lincoln

Link’s mom, who tries to get Lena expelled from school. She believes it is her civic duty to protect the children of Gatlin from the evil of the Ravenwoods and Duchannes.
