It’s upsetting to find that in a view-changing series like The Hunger Games that the issue of race has made another unsightly appearance. In fear of offending others or acting as though race doesn’t matter, the “taboo” subject is not solved. The tweets about Rue’s race in the film (as well as the race of Cinna and Thresh) over the weekend after the release of the movie adaption proves that not all understood the true point of this series.

Hint: This is not just about a love triangle, in fact, it’s not about that at all.

“Why does Rue have to be black,” wrote one ignorant fan, whose Twitter page no longer exists. “Not gonna lie, kinda ruined the movie.”

“Awkward moment when Rue is some black girl and not the innocent blonde girl you picture,” wrote another user, whose account has also been deleted.

If these were your biggest concerns about the movie, you either didn’t read the book, or didn’t truly grasp what Suzanne Collins was trying to teach you.

Thoughts? Disagreements?
