Earlier this week The Hunger Games: Mockingjay added Stef Dawson to its cast, and today the actress is talking about the role of Annie.

In the book series by Suzanne Collins, Annie is Finnick’s wife and won the 70th Hunger Games for District 4.

Dawson says that Lionsgate probably most enjoyed the “fragility and a vulnerability” when auditioning the actress for the role. Speaking of the character, she said, “I think she’s a a girl that has been through some stuff, she’s had some really hard experiences in her life which I have as well. Annie is also a survivor.”

She also spoke about the messages she found while reading the book series. “Probably how people can turn on each other and become their worst enemies, when it’s those around you, you really need to survive. I think love is a big thing for my character Annie, she wouldn’t survive without love, she’s at breaking point.”

The actress added that her one audition was enough to convince producers to cast her. “I did one audition and that was enough. Apparently, they were blown away, they didn’t have to see any more.”

In the past week we’ve also learned that Natalie Dormer has been cast as Cressida and Evan Ross will play Messalla.

Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2 will open in November 2014 and November 2015 respectively. Both films will be directed by Francis Lawrence and plan to shoot starting next month.
