The Hunger Games hit store shelves this past Saturday, and all numbers indicate that the release was a big success for Lionsgate.

The film sold 3.8 million DVD and Blu-ray discs, surpassing Breaking Dawn – Part 1′s 3.2 million and Eclipse’s 2.7 million. It did not beat Twilight and New Moon which sold 3.8 million and 4 million respectively.

Of the copies sold thus far, 1.3 million were Blu-ray.

Lionsgate says their Hunger Games launch was their “most aggressive marketing campaign ever.” Over the past few weeks we reported heavily on the sneak peeks, release parties, and special editions.
