Hulu is saving Dr. Lahiri’s practice! It was just announced that Hulu picked up The Mindy Project for 26 episodes.

In an episode order larger than they ever received over three seasons at Fox, the online streaming platform Hulu has picked up The Mindy Project for season 4. In a synergistic move, NBCUniversal both produces The Mindy Project and is part-owner of Hulu, though we doubt that had much of an influence on the deal.

“I am thrilled The Mindy Project has found a new home on Hulu, where so many of our fans are already watching the show. It’s such an exciting place to be,” said Kaling in a statement this morning.

While fans were certainly disappointed by the Fox cancellation, they never really lost hope as rumors swirled that Hulu would save the Mindy Kaling vehicle.

Kaling herself didn’t seem too deterred by the cancellation either, Instagraming the below image a week ago.

This is the second notable case where an online platform has bought a show off a network in order to create and premiere new episodes — Community and Yahoo! created the first partnership last year. Earlier this television season, Hulu bought the remaining episodes of ABC’s Selfie and NBC’s A to Z and premiered them on their site weekly.

No word yet on when we can expect The Mindy Project season 4 to go into production, or if the show’s format will look or feel different. We’re just happy that that tantalizing season 3 cliffhanger will have a resolution!
