Mexican Gothic is the latest bestseller gearing up to get the adaptation treatment over at Hulu.

According to Deadline, Hulu is currently in the process of developing a brand new drama series based off of author Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s bestselling book, Mexican Gothic.

The horror thriller was published just last month and focuses on a young socialite named Noemi Taboada.

Mexican Gothic follows along as Noemi ventures out to the Mexican countryside and through the mountains of Hidalgo in an attempt to rescue her cousin. Her cousin, in turn, has recently married into a mining family.

Noemi sets off in search of her relative after she receives a frantic letter that spurs her into action. The young socialite’s plan is to pull the curtain back on her cousin’s new family and all of their sinister secrets. It’ll be easier said than done though, as she’ll soon realize that escaping their clutches unscathed might just be an impossible feat.

The upcoming Hulu original already has some major star power behind the scenes.

Specifically, the adaptation hails from Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelo’s Milojo Productions banner. Milojo, in turn, was the one who acquired the rights to the book.

Both Ripa, Consuelos, and Milojo’s Albert Bianchini will serve as executive producers on the project. In addition, author Silvia Moreno-Garcia will also serve as an executive producer on the project.

Ripa, who is a huge fan of the novel herself, expressed her excitement over bringing the adaptation to Hulu, saying: “We feel like we hit the literary jackpot, and cannot wait to bring Silvia’s gorgeous writing to life, together with Hulu.”

Meanwhile, author Moreno-Garcia said: “I am excited to see the novel come to life and to meet the talented, diverse crew and cast members that will take us on this journey.”
