A rumor has been floating around recently saying that Hulk would make an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Last year, the not entirely trustable Latino Review reported that Hulk would have a solo movie between Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers 3. More than that, they reported that it would be the highly popular Planet Hulk storyline. (In this story, Hulk is banished from Earth to a planet that he acclimates to and eventually conquers; the story follows a similar trajectory to that of Conan the Barbarian.)

The rumors were eventually debunked (Mark Ruffalo, Joss Whedon, and Kevin Feige have all said that they aren’t working on a solo Hulk movie, and even if they were, it wouldn’t be Planet Hulk). But, the rumor gained a little traction last month, albeit in a different form. Last month HitFix published a potentially very spoilery report that suggested that part of the Planet Hulk storyline would find its way into Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Late last week Guardians of the Galaxy writer and director James Gunn was confirmed to be returning for the sequel, and today he spoke to The Playlist about this Planet Hulk inside Guardians of the Galaxy 2 rumor that has been so popular.

“I can answer that question very easily: it is absolute, 100% bullshit,” Gunn said. “It feels like a great relief to finally say this after all the dumb stuff on the Internet. There’s not going to be a Planet Hulk movie, there was never going to be a Planet Hulk movie, there was never a plan for the Hulk to team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy – I wouldn’t want the Hulk to team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy! And it’s all a bunch of complete bullshit.”

Well, that pretty much confirms it: there’s not going to be a Planet Hulk movie, not even inside Guardians of the Galaxy 2. While visually we’re sure a Planet Hulk movie would have been stunning, we can’t say we’re really too sad about it. A Planet Hulk movie would be light on Bruce Banner (not in Hulk form), and Ruffalo’s performance as Banner is what we’re itching to see more of anyway.

The question now is whether or not we’ll see Bruce Banner/Hulk in any fashion in between Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers 3. Maybe this opens the door for Banner to be featured heavily in Iron Man 4, if it ever is to happen.
