Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence is helming an adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey, and Hugh Jackman might star as Odysseus.

Lionsgate is looking for its next big franchise after The Hunger Games and, somewhat surprisingly, they’ve gone for Homer’s The Odyssey rather than another dystopian teen series.

Mockingjay director Francis Lawrence has been tapped to helm the potential movie series, which will open with a “grand-scale retelling of history’s greatest voyage home.”

The Wrap now reports that Hugh Jackman, who is about to embark on his final Wolverine adventure, is in talks to star as main character Odysseus.

In the Odyssey, Odysseus is journeying home from the battle of Troy when a series of unfortunate events delay his homecoming. The 10-year adventure sees him tangling with Olympian Gods, being captured by the nymph Calypso, and scheming to escape a fearsome Cyclops.

Last we saw Odysseus on the big screen was in Wolfgang Petersen’s 2004 movie Troy, where the iconic character was played by Sean Bean.

Hugh Jackman, who has vowed to hang up his Wolverine claws and retire from the X-Men cinematic universe, would be a pretty near perfect fit for the wayward war hero.

Lionsgate is really keeping it within the family for their adaptation of The Odyssey: Frances Lawrence will be joined by Mockingjay co-writer Peter Craig, who is penning the screenplay, while Hunger Games saga producer Nina Jacobson will return to produce the Homer epic.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 opens in theaters on November 20, 2015.
