HTGAWM season 6, episode 6, was full of family in all its messy forms. Here’s our review of the episode.

How to Get Away With Murder season 6, episode 6, was aptly titled “Family Sucks.” The episode really took the “who needs family when you have friends you can murder with” approach, taking us deeper into the not-so-happy families of some of the Keating crew.

Honestly, this episode of HTGAWM kind of lagged for me. Aside from a few key plot points, it was probably my least favorite episode of the season to date, so I will focus largely on those major points in my review.

Interestingly, after the recent romantic shake-ups on the show, the most intriguing parts of this episode had to deal with relationships. First of all, it looks like Frank’s injuries are bringing him closer to Bonnie than ever, even to the point of asking her to run away to Oregon with him!

I’m definitely not opposed to a Bonnie and Frank endgame. At this point, it’d be a long shot for Laurel to come back, get over what will either be guilt or trauma, and form some semblance of a healthy relationship with Frank before the series ends. If/when she finally returns, there will just be too much to work through and far too little time.

The first time Frank came on to Bonnie in HTGAWM season 6, Bonnie dismissed it as simply being a reaction to Frank missing Laurel. I loved that, at the time, but it’s making me wonder why she’s not currently reacting the same way. If anything, Frank is feeling more rejected and broken than ever, so why would she accept his confessions of love now?

Perhaps her admission that she needs to take time to get over Ron is also her way of giving Frank the time he needs to heal. It’s possible that Bonnie sees this as the final nail in Flaurel’s coffin, from which Frank can finally move on.

I was on board with all of this, until How to Get Away With Murder reminded me of the massive secret Annalise and Frank are keeping from Bonnie! It will obviously come out at some point, so in the end, it will come down to Bonnie deciding if she can forgive them, and herself, or not. That’s going to be a big blow, so I hope it comes out sooner than later, so the aftermath has time to play out before HTGAWM ends.

Bonnie also delivered a big blow in HTGAWM season 6, episode 6. It actually makes perfect sense that she was able to pick a student, since they’ve always made such a big deal out of Frank picking Laurel. Annalise obviously respects and honors their choices too, since she let Frank bring the Castillo drama into the mix. I hope Bonnie and Connor can continue to bond over her past trauma and Connor’s present confusion.

A lot of season 6, episode 6, focused on Annalise and the Keating crew going on “offence,” but I think we’ll have to wait and see how effective this tactic will actually be. I have a hard time believing that the FBI will shift their gaze to the Castillos just because somebody that they don’t trust has filed a restraining order against them.

I was surprised when Annalise proposed this as a solution, but I’m interested to see how it actually plays out. I was also shocked that she suddenly started talking about jets and Justines! This all kind of came out of nowhere, so there’s not much to say about it until we see what comes from it.

Annalise wasn’t the only one throwing curve balls in this episode of HTGAWM. I was also taken aback by Nate and Tegan’s storyline. I’m equally bewildered by Nate’s refusal to trust Tegan and Tegan’s willingness to keep trying. However, the one great thing that came out of this episode was Tegan coming *this close* to admitting she has feelings for Annalise!

Last but not least, let’s get to the episode’s big love triangle. I’ve been eager to see where HTGAWM was taking Michaela and Asher for a while now, and I’m pretty happy with the result.

I loved that Michaela and Asher were both able to say goodbye to their families on their own terms in this episode. They’ve both been deeply affected by the rejection of their parents, so it was amazing to see them take the power back. It was cool how their shared experience and support of one another gave them a new anchor, and a reason to come back to each other.

On the other hand, Michaela and Gabriel have also been pretty epic together! I honestly don’t know which side I’m on, and I’m legitimately just excited to see who she picks and why. Of course, the decision could end up being made for her, if Gabriel becomes a casualty of HTGAWM season 6.

From this episode’s flash forward, we know that Asher and Bonnie are safe, but Asher’s looking pretty bloody and more than a little guilty. From last week’s episode, we know that the murder probably went down in either his or Gabriel’s apartment as well. I can’t wait to get another piece of the puzzle next week.
