How to Get Away With Murder is back for season 2 this Thursday on ABC, and there are a couple of big questions on our mind.

Last season, things were left on a bit of a cliffhanger. On top of that, there were multiple unresolved issues among the characters. Here are the biggest questions we hope season 2 answers.

1. Who killed Rebecca Sutter?

The obvious answer here might be that Frank killed Rebecca. Considering he was apparently the murderous clean-up man for Sam Keating, it wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine that he would be capable of taking out Rebecca. Let’s face it, what’s another dead co-ed to him as long as he’s being handsomely rewarded, or covering his own ass?

On the other hand, blaming it on Frank seems way too easy, and way too obvious. If we learned anything last season, it was to never, ever assume. Anyone is capable of anything by premeditation or accident given the right set of circumstances. Maybe it wasn’t Frank.

2. Is Momma coming back?

Two words: Cicely Tyson. In what was possibly the most genius casting on the show last year, veteran, Emmy Award winning actress Cicely Tyson played the mother of Viola Davis’ Annalise Keating… or should we say Anna Mae?

It was fantastic to meet the one person who could totally see through Annalise’s hard as nails facade, and have an honest heart-to-heart with her. On top of that, her comic zingers with the rest of the cast were a thing of beauty. We need this again!

3. Will Connor step up to the plate?

Last season we watched Connor navigate his on-again, off-again, using him vs. in love with him relationship with Oliver. What started out as simply a means to get information ended up with Connor having the first committed relationship of his life. After he and Oliver were tested for STDs, the shocking revelation was that playboy Connor got a clean bill of health, whereas Oliver apparently picked up H.I.V. from one of his few partners. Now the question is, will Connor stick around?

Granted, having H.I.V. is no longer the immediate death sentence it once was back in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, and people are less afraid to shake hands with or be near an H.I.V. infected person. On the other hand, as much as society has progressed, there is still a stigma associated with the disease. How is Connor going to treat Oliver as a person because of this revelation? We are hoping they maintain a relationship even if they aren’t destined to be the loves of each other’s lives. We don’t want to see a break-up be solely caused by H.I.V. They have the opportunity for some groundbreaking network TV here, and we are hoping they don’t blow it.

4. What’s the fallout of those student-teacher relationships?

It should be noted that Frank and Laurel, and Asher and Bonnie are consenting adults. So, there’s nothing illegal about their relationships. On the other hand, Frank and Bonnie are mentors in relationships closely linked to their legal studies and law degrees. Additionally, what they do for Annalise is almost like an internship that you would find in corporate America. In either case, society, and in fact most universities and corporations, take a dim view of those in authority sleeping with the students/interns. Matter of mutual consent notwithstanding, it’s just not done.

So the question is, will someone in an authoritative position discover what’s been going on with Frank and Laurel, as well as Asher and Bonnie? If they do notice, what will they do about it? How will this affect the students’ lives and Annalise’s life, since she employed two people who are possibly more toxic than she is?

5. Who did Rebecca text?

This is probably the biggest question of the year, aside from possibly “WTF were the law students thinking when they bound, gagged, and kidnapped Rebecca to begin with.” In any case, moments before Rebecca’s demise, she used Michaela’s phone to send out some sort of cryptic S.O.S. Who did she text? What did she mean by texting, “Eggs 911. Lawyer’s house?” Also, will Michaela be the fall guy since her phone was used? Last year Michaela hinted that she had reinvented herself once, and she could do it again. What exactly did she reinvent herself from?

How to Get Away with Murder season 2, episode 1 debuts this Thursday at 10:00/9:00(c) on ABC.
