How to Get Away with Murder finally solved the mystery of Annalise Keating’s baby, and quite possibly how her whole life downwardly spiralled.

Next week is the season 2 finale. With everything out in the open at last, the drama will certainly ramp up.

Best crazy sauce moment

With a dangerous killer turned blackmailer on the loose, how is it possible that people are walking around unaccompanied? Annalise, we thought you were smarter than this. How is it possible that Caleb Hapstall is among the missing, and Phillip Hapstall hasn’t been found? Does Philly not have sniffer dogs?

Our crack theory is that that it’s all a huge set-up. Maybe Phillip and Caleb are working together. In fact, we are going for Caleb and Phillip working together to frame Catherine, and it’s actually Caleb that Phillip has the hots for, and not Catherine.

Snarkiest exchange

The entire interrogation of Laurel, Connor, Michaela, and Wes by the District Attorney was a glorious snark-fest with some additional commentary by Bonnie. It’s hard to pick a favorite moment. Wes finally had his head in the game, and produced the gem about not needing an excuse to visit New York City. Laurel stood up to the Latino compadre routine (hilarious on a whole other level if you don’t need subtitles and understand Spanish) with glorious condescension. Even the straightlaced Michaela had a moment of fast-moving double talk. The very best, however, was Connor. Given how overwrought he’s been on every level lately, it was fantastic to see him pull himself together and come up with the, “People have told me I have a resting bitch face so that’s probably what you were reading as distraught” comment.

Best death glare

There are a series of eye-rollages to top all eye-rollages as Asher finally comes around to apologizing to everyone for ruining their lives, that it’s hard to pick the best death glare. Wes is a strong contender, and so is Bonnie, but for different reasons. Wes is mulling over the fact that Rebecca is likely dead, and that he might have murdered his mom. Bonnie is just tired of playing nursemaid, and nanny to people hell bent on self-destruction.

As fantastic as those looks were, nothing really topped the look on Wes’ face as Annalise told the tale of her involvement in Wes’ mother’s death, and the fact that Wes’ dad is none other than her former client.

Voice of reason

Interestingly enough, we are going to go for Laurel and Frank as being the voices of reason. Laurel, in the present, is trying to just get everyone to stop keeping secrets, and to get everything out on the table. Frank, in the flashback sequence, is essentially trying to do the same thing. He’s trying to head off disaster by getting Annalise to tell him what is going on.

The only thanks that either of them get for their effort is ingratitude from Annalise and the students. Annalise tells Frank that he’s essentially white trash that isn’t worth her time. Laurel gets treated like a baby, but Laurel is able to get in a significant blow. Laurel reveals to Annalise that Frank killed Lila. This is news to Annalise, who realizes that she has made this monster, and it sends her running home to momma.

Ships ahoy

With Basher and Flaurel on the outs, we still have our good old standby of Coliver. You have to wonder, though, how big of a deep, dark secret could Ollie possibly have? Is the secret enough to drive a wedge?

Eve has also moved out of the picture back to New York, but she’s trying to get Annalise back. We are rooting for this, since Eve seems to be the only stable person in any relationship Annalise has ever had. On the other hand, Eve is a bit of a moral compass, and moral compasses tend to get bumped off quickly on most TV series.

The real ship surprise was Michaela and Asher. Seriously, did anyone see that coming? Will it be more than a one-night stand?

Sure didn’t see that coming

The biggest reveal of the evening was just how much the events of 10-years-ago framed Annalise’s life. Without question, Annalise wanting to do the morally right thing, that could have caused her to be disbarred, led to the loss of her child. Time stopped for Annalise that day. She’s been bitter, emotionally stunted, and hardened since then. She turned into exactly the unfeeling, ambition-driven maniac that she currently is.

With the facts now all out on the table, do we feel sorry for Annalise? Do we excuse her? There is no black and white answer.

How to Get Away with Murder is back next Thursday for its season 2 finale at 10:00/9:00c on ABC.

Did you feel sorry for Annalise on ‘HTGAWM’?
