Hey, did you hear? Harry Potter didn’t win an Oscar! The Outrage! The Scandal! The… okay, I can’t even pretend I care anymore.

I’ll admit I was a bit miffed (to use Daniel Radcliffe’s word) that Harry Potter never won an Oscar. But then, after about a second, I realized that I don’t really care.

I love Harry Potter with all my heart. Harry and I grew up together. Sure, the HP movies never were my cup of tea, but that was probably just because as a person who knows there are 142 staircases in Hogwarts without having to look it up, I really felt filmmakers could have done a better job capturing Jo’s story. Then again, I also don’t like movies in general.

But when I do see a movie, what “The Academy” thinks is not going to rank high on my list of why I like or dislike a movie. I will form an opinion based on how I feel when I watch it; how likely I am to see it again; how engrossed I get in the plot. And while I think that my positive Harry Potter viewing experience is based solely on my love of the books, I feel happy when I watch Harry Potter, I’ve seen all the movies numerous times, and I am captivated by what’s on the screen. I don’t give a flying hippogriff about what “The Academy” thinks is good.

Harry Potter fans should remember these things and not what some fancy-smancy film critic says about the boy who lived.
