How We Hype is a twice-monthly feature on Hypable where we tell you what we’re doing in fandom over the weekend!

Catching up with the snarky residents of Stars Hollow on ‘Gilmore Girls’ – Mitchel Clow

Lorelai speaks so damn fast on this show and is so uber cultured that if I didn’t watch with subtitles, I’m sure that I wouldn’t understand half of the dialogue. After finishing my binge of The Walking Dead, I decided it was time to watch something a little less morbid. Now I understand there’s something about the guys that Rory dates that I’m meant to be paying attention to.

Rewatching ‘Glee’ – Kate Bonk

I’ve been binge watching the old seasons while I work at home and am hoping to finish seasons 2 and 3 this weekend so I can be fully caught up by the end of the show’s run!

Rewatching ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine,’ with a twist – Donya Abramo

Anyone who has been following Hero Hype will know that I’m not the biggest Wolverine fan on the best of days — but that’s not going to stop me from rewatching this movie to refresh my memory of Ryan Reynold’s portrayal of everyone’s favorite “Merc with a Mouth.” With the Deadpool movie set for release in 2016, now is the perfect time to revisit the character. Plus, I’ll be live-tweeting my experiences from the Hero Hype twitter account — for anyone who wants to watch along with me. Hopefully I’ll be seeing you there.

Listening to my first audiobook, Neil Gaiman’s ‘Trigger Warning’- Brittany Lovely

Snow storms be damned! I am heading up to Boston (Let’s Go Pats!) this weekend, which means a four to five our car drive is in my imminent future. After my voice surrenders to the belting of Beyoncé’s greatest hits, I plan on listening to Neil Gaiman’s Trigger Warning. This is my first venture into audiobooks and I am finally ready to cash in my free Audible book at long last. I highly enjoy podcasts and NPR talk radio, so it is a mystery why I waited so long to give audiobooks a try. Traffic permitting I may be able to finish the 11+ hours before Sunday!

Catching up with ‘Revenge’ – Tariq Kyle

After months and months of recording Revenge and not watching I’ve finally got the spark in me to restart the series. Honestly the only thing keeping me interested is how they’re going to work a certain character’s death into the plot, and I wanna see how they go! My obsession with character death continues as I binge watch this until that happens. Will I keep watching after? Who knows.

Re-reading ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ – Danielle Zimmerman

This past summer, I decided that I wanted to re-read the entire Harry Potter series. All of the other times I re-read the books, it was for a book release or movie premiere. This time, however, I’m reading them because I want to re-discover all of the wonderful details and mentally separate the books from the movies. I had so many friends at work wanting to join me that we formed a Harry Potter book club! This month, we’re re-reading Half-Blood Prince, which was never my favorite or least favorite book. From what I remember, this and the second book were the ones with the least distinct personalities to them. I’m really hoping that my re-read proves me wrong. I can’t wait to re-discover small details that I have forgotten or never really paid attention to before.

Reading ‘The Goblin Emperor’ by Katherine Addison – Michal Schick

The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison has been waiting patiently on my shelf since July, while other books kept pulling my attentions away. But with blurbs from authors like Scott Lynch, Elizabeth Bear, and Kate Elliot, and frequent comparisons to the work of Megan Whalen Turner, I could no longer hold back – and I’m so pleased I didn’t. The Goblin Emperor tells the story of Maia, the third, half-goblin son of the Elvish emperor who inherits the throne when his father and brothers are killed. It isn’t an easy read; the writing is dense and rich, the setting intricate and deeply formal. If you don’t like long fantasy names which tie your tongue in actual knots, this book may not be for you. But if you enjoy intrigue, subtlety, gorgeously crafted worlds and main characters who don’t know how snarky they are, The Goblin Emperor is definitely worth a look.

Finishing ‘The Mime Order’ – Laura Byrne Cristiano

I’ll be finishing book number two in Samantha Shannon’s The Bone Season series. My favorite genre is the fantasy genre and this YA series does a great job at crossing genres. It’s part historical fiction, part fantasy, part sci-fi, part paranormal, and part dystopian. I can’t remember the last time a book kept me guessing and had such inventive world building in book two. Usually second books can be filled with transition. This one so far (I’m about half-way through) is an absolute rollercoaster ride on steroids. The author is an Oxford University student. It’s already been optioned for film by The Imaginarium Studios, led by Andy Serkis. I can’t wait for the next one.

Reading ‘The Girl on the Train’ – Andrew Sims

Paula Hopkins’ debut novel is drawing comparisons to Gone Girl and has racked up over 1,000 reviews on Amazon less than a month after publication, and for good reason. The Girl on the Train is a compelling whodunit-like drama told from the perspective of several characters – at least two of whom can’t stand one another. I’m halfway through and am loving every minute of the book. If you love mysteries or thrillers, this is the novel for you.
