How We Hype is a twice-monthly feature on Hypable where we tell you what we’re doing in fandom over the weekend!

Watching ‘SNL’ with Sarah Silverman and Maroon 5 – John Thrasher

I’ll be tuning in to SNL on Saturday featuring host Sarah Silverman and musical guest Maroon 5. Sarah Silverman was on SNL as a writer and occasional performer in the 93-94 season before she was fired. I am sure she will mention this in her opening monologue. I’m excited to see the second episode with all the new changes this season: new graphics for the 40th season, new announcer Darrell Hammond, and new cast members Michael Che and Pete Davidson, who were great during last week’s season premiere!

Seeing ’Gone Girl’ – Jen Lamoureux

Gone Girl is definitely a movie I have been waiting to see. The trailers look amazing and there is some question about whether they actually changed the ending or not. I’m excited to see how Gillian Flynn transformed her script for the big screen. Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike look like the perfect couple but the dark secrets that exist between is the heart of the story. Also Neil Patrick Harris looks amazingly creepy.

Watching ’Transparent’ on Amazon Prime – Brittany Lovely

Following Netflix’s success with House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, Amazon released its first truly hype-worthy series Transparent made free to those with Prime membership. The series follows Mort, now Maura Pfefferman (Jeffery Tambor) who comes out as transgender to her now adult children. Written, directed, and produced by Jill Solloway (Six Fee Under), the series is compared to both Girls and Louie. The blend of humor and family secrets of the half-hour comedy strikes the point between being both relatable and cringeworthy without ostracizing its audience. I have read nothing but praise for the series and from the promotions and clips I have seen, I made sure to allot the time to watch it all in one shot. I plan to settle in with Transparent for five hours of my Saturday this weekend. What better way to wind down from the return of fall television than with an online series?

Catching up on fall TV: ‘Scorpion’ and ‘Sleepy Hollow’ – Laura Byrne-Cristiano

I haven’t had a chance to really watch anything that hasn’t aired on weekends or in online previews, so I’m looking forward to catching up with this season of Sleepy Hollow which was my favorite new show last fall. I’m also going to check out Scorpion because I caught five minutes of episode two. Even though I was totally lost, I still was dying to know what happened next. So, I figured I better watch from the start. I’m a sucker for period drama, sci-fi, and crime dramas so pretty much these two series are a goldmine for me.

Catching up on ‘Doctor Who’ – Selina Wilken

Oops. After finding myself a bit turned off at the first few episodes of Doctor Who series 8, I’ve suddenly fallen three episodes behind. It’s stupid, because it took me a while to warm up to the Matt Smith era too and I ended up loving it… and I do like Peter Capaldi’s Doctor. I’m just not a big fan of Clara, and I felt like their relationship (which already felt forced before the regeneration) was just not genuine. There was something very shallow about the first couple of episodes, and I don’t tune in to Doctor Who for the monster of the week. BUT, now I’ve got three episodes to watch back to back, and I’m hoping a bigger dose will convince me that there’s an overall storyline and meaningful character arcs worth watching.

Watching ‘Gilmore Girls’ on Netflix – Kristina Lintz

When my friend and I lived together two years ago, we’d usually end a long and stressful week with a marathon Gilmore Girls watch session. We’d pop in the DVD’s and settle down with whatever takeout we had selected for the night. Boy, times have changed! Now, we’re ending the week with a marathon Gilmore Girls session and all we have to do is turn on Netflix. To really kick off October, we’re going to channel the Gilmore girls and indulge in homemade pumpkin dip, pumpkin muddy buddies and pumpkin muffins.

Possibly seeing Britney Spears in Las Vegas – Andrew Sims

I’m going to Las Vegas this weekend. This is the same city where Britney Spears is currently living part-time as she hosts her “Piece of Me” show at Planet Hollywood on The Strip.

My friend is going to the show – she’s already purchased her tickets – but I haven’t. My main hold up is that it costs over $100 to see Spears lip sync and sorta-kinda dance on stage.

Another friend who already saw the show told me that if I get tickets, I should sit as far away as possible so I can’t see how dead Britney looks in the eyes. This same friend said the show would be a “blip” in my night (it runs for roughly 1 hour and 20 minutes).

Here’s my dilemma: Do I really want to pay over $100 to watch someone lip sync and poorly dance for a little over a hour? By paying for this type of show, I’ll be telling Las Vegas and Spears that this is an acceptable type of performance. I think I’ll feel robbed if I see this show.

It is Britney(, bitch). That’s a tempting enough reason to go. It’d be so cool to say I’ve seen Britney “live.”

I actually live in the same town as Britney and have a decent shot at seeing her in the food store. Judging by paparazzi photos, she’ll look happier than she apparently does on stage.

Maybe I’ll just spend extra time in food stores.
