How We Hype is a twice-monthly feature on Hypable where we tell you what we’re doing in fandom over the weekend!

Seeing some amazing ladies in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ – Marama Whyte

It’s finally here (almost). And luckily for me, it’s coming a little sooner than for everyone else as I’ll be seeing the second Avengers installment this weekend. I didn’t love The Avengers with the reverence that most other Marvel fans seem to, but I’m going into the sequel with tentative optimism. I’m particularly excited for the addition of Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), and hopefully more scenes with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), because this team could certainly do with more ladies.

Geeking out at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books – Ariana Quiñónez

It’s my favorite time of year! Don’t you just love that new book smell? The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books is celebrating its 20th anniversary this weekend, and if you live in the southern California area, I can’t recommend it enough. Authors, editors, celebrities, and entertainers come together to put on a great show that is absolutely FREE to the public. Come get your book signed or just listen to your favorite author talk about the writing process. There’s something for everybody, including several kids’ stages! I’m especially excited to see Victor Villaseñor, who wrote one of my favorite books, Rain of Gold.

Reading ‘The Royal We’ – Brittany Lovely

Spoiler alert: Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Kate Middleton are married. Shocking, I know. Even further spoiler alert: I’m more than 65% done with this book, but I need the weekend to absorb every last juicy bit of this book outside the hours of 1:00 to 3:00 A.M. The Royal We, written by celebrity fashion bloggers Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan (Go Fug Yourself) is not exactly a tale as old as time, but a reimagining of one within the past five years. American Rebecca Porter goes to Oxford and falls madly in love with the extremely eligible Prince Nick, future King of England. The stories that unfold behind the smiles for paparazzi, fabulous coats, and rolling estates, provide a captivating look at celebrity life when the stakes are not if one’s film is hit at the box-office, but if one is capable of ruling a country.

Rebecca, or Bex, is a refreshing female character for a reader, like myself, transitioning out of a long binge of YA heroines. She is messy, opinionated, and fiercely independent, but recognizes the perks of sometimes letting someone else help you out. If you enjoyed watching the months leading up the wedding of Wills and Kate, or think you’d enjoy The Princess Diaries with bit more of a The Royals edge, this is the perfect book to spend the weekend with.

Attempting to watch another episode of ‘Twin Peaks’ – Karen Rought

A few weeks ago I watched the pilot of Twin Peaks. All I know about this show is that at one time it was A Very Big Deal and a lot of people still love it. 25 years later, they’re bringing it back, and considering its cultural significance, I figured I should try to give it a go. I was… not impressed. Granted, I only watched the pilot, but I found myself cringing more and more as I got through the episode. Still, there’s got to be something to this show, right? And I’m no quitter, so down the rabbit hole I go once more. Maybe episode 2 will bring more insight into this show’s cult classic status.

Reading ‘Beautiful Secret’ by Christina Lauren – Sonya Field

This weekend I’ll be diving headfirst into writing duo Christina Lauren’s latest novel Beautiful Secret. If you’ve read any of Christina Lauren’s other books I’m sure you’ve already started reading it yourself. If you haven’t, let me tell you that this is sure to be a must read just like the rest of their novels. Yes, it’s a romance novel. But their stories are full of rich plot lines, loveable characters, and female characters to admire! This novel is sure to please with a British hunk who is also adorably awkward and an ambitious intern with a massive crush. I’m sure to finish in one sitting and will continue my own lady crush on Christina Lauren. If I’ve made you curious with all my gushing, you can read the first two chapters of Beautiful Secret over on their blog.

Finally watching ‘Daredevil’ – Michal Schick

I know, it’s been out for a whole week already. I know, it’s apparently the best thing since Stan Lee. I know, Charlie Cox is super hot, in a weird, mushy, baby-faced kind of way. But a number of factors have colluded to keep me away from The Man Without Fear since Marvel and Netflix’s first collaboration appeared online, and I really want to give Daredevil my full attention. Solution: I’m going to give it at least part of this weekend.

Seeing ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ – Natalie Fisher

Yes, you read that correctly. This weekend I will be attending the Sydney premiere screening of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, nearly two weeks before the movie comes out in the USA. Sometimes, just sometimes, Australia lucks out in terms of movie releases – I guess it makes up for all those times other films reach our cinemas six months late. I’m going to be one of the first fans in the world to see Age of Ultron! What more is there to say, really? I’m excited and also quite nervous for what this new installment holds, but I’ve been counting down the days until I get more Steve Rogers back on my screen.

Finishing up ‘House of Cards’ season 3 – Mitchel Clow

Netflix has been keeping me busy as of late with my slow but sure rewatch of Gilmore Girls. However, it’s the awesome original Netflix content that’s really been keeping me watching.

I love the feel of shows that aren’t built to a commercial break, because they can hit you with their hardest punch right at the end without diluting it some with mini-shockers throughout. House of Cards arguably does the best job of ending on a cliffhanger out of the many shows that I watch. Freddy showing up at the unemployment line at the end of “Chapter 31” was an excellent punch to the gut, making me eager to zip through the rest of the third season of House of Cards.

Playing catch up on all the fandoms I’ve been neglecting- Pamela Gocobachi

In all the excitement of Netflix’s Daredevil, and of course, the Once and Future King returning to television, I am ashamed to say that I’ve been neglecting some of my other favorite TV shows — including the likes of Once Upon A Time, Sleepy Hollow and The Vampire Diaries. As such, I’ve decided to dedicate the weekend to playing catch up on all my old favorites. This weekend, I thoroughly plan on burrowing away with copious amounts of coffee and snacks until I’m caught up on everything.
