The third (and possibly final) film in the How to Train Your Dragon series has been pushed back one year.

Dreamworks announced on Tuesday that How to Train Your Dragon 3 has been moved from its previously announced June 18, 2016 date to June 9, 2017. The former date was announced way back in 2012.

While the studio didn’t explicitly explain why the film is moving back a year, one could assume that series director Dean DeBlois may need more time to work on the story with his team.

Another reason may be the sequel’s mixed performance at the box office. While Dragon 2 was able to make more money than its predecessor worldwide (in today’s same announcement, the studio said that the sequel has now made $600 million as of Labor Day weekend), it did not make as much money as the original did domestically ($217 million versus $174 million, according to Box Office Mojo).

Today’s announcement included confirmation that Dragon voice actors Jay Baruchel (Hiccup), America Ferrera (Astrid) and Cate Blanchett (Valka) will be returning for the third outing. Blanchett is the newest of the three actresses to join the series and plays Hiccup’s mother.
