Maybe not the craziest finale ever, but how about that ending? Check out all our thoughts about the How to Get Away with Murder season 2 finale, and let us know what you think!

In the pantheon of great and shocking Shondaland finales, the How to Get Away with Murder season 2 ending didn’t exactly measure up. The shock and surprise we expected this whole episode to be riddled with seemed to come all at the end, and it just didn’t pack the same punch we’ve had before. That said, it was a solid finale and has left us with some intriguing questions for season 3.

Check out all our favorite moments from How to Get Away with Murder season 2, episode 15, “Anna Mae,” and let us know what you thought about the episode in the comments below.

Craziest moment

The craziest moment definitely has to be that last scene. Wes did as he was asked. Laurel begged him not to do anything about Wallace Mahoney until Annalise was back, and he waited until she returned to town before he took his chance to meet his father. He approached him on the street corner and barely got out the words, “I think I’m your son,” before the man was shot dead in front of him. If you thought Wes had a mental breakdown this season, just you wait. After this, there’s no way the kid is right in the head. That’s three people he’s watched die in front of him. No one walks away from that kind of horror unscathed. No one.

Best flashback

Frank calls up all his courage and tells Sam about his part in the loss of Annalise’s child. Considering all the secrets that are kept on this show, it was really refreshing to see Frank of the past taking responsibility for his actions. He may not have ordered the hit on Annalise, but he was instrumental in giving her opposition the tools to do the job. It was a great scene for Charlie Weber (who plays Frank), and a touching moment for an enforcer we’ve seen do many horrible things.

Best death glare

Thanks to some pretty intense scenes between Annalise and her mother last season, we know that Annalise is not fond of her father. She pretty much hates every fiber of his being at this point. So, naturally, when he appears at her mother’s house, it surprises the hell out of her. The rest of their scenes together included at least one death stare from Annalise, and we couldn’t have picked a better candidate for one.

Shipping moment of the week

Finales don’t always leave a lot of room for shipping, what with all the mayhem that is usually going on, but we did get one (sort of) sweet scene between Connor and Oliver. The sweetness of Connor trying to use sex to make life decisions is slightly overshadowed by Oliver trying to bury his acceptance to Stanford Law School as quickly as he can. Why all the secrets, Oliver? What’s going on in your head? Despite the bittersweet nature, we still just love seeing these two going strong after two seasons of murderous turmoil.

Snarkiest exchange

It’s a toss up between Annalise with her sister and Annalise with her mother in that opening bit. There’s nothing like sisterly love to make even the craziest of lives seem normal, and their trading snark back and forth was a lovely change in Annalise’s usually gruff demeanor. The only way it could have been better was if her mother popped in, and that is exactly the moment Momma cracks open the door and scolds her little girl for still being in bed. You’ve got to love Momma Harkness.

Voice of reason

No matter what kind of crazy Annalise delivers, her mother always has a way to calm it. She gave Annalise a haven to come to when she needed to get away, and when she learned about the baby her Anna Mae lost all those years ago, she had the solution for that too. She found a way for Annalise to say goodbye and mourn her child fully. She could sense the shadow of guilt and grief that Annalise had been toting around with her all these years. After burying a note that Anna wrote to her child in the backyard in the middle of the night, we saw Annalise finally start to put it behind her and heal. Mother knows best after all.

We sure didn’t see that coming

Caleb is a serial killer! Just when we thought that the Hapstall portion of this season was all but wrapped up, a major bombshell cracks the case wide open. Our suspicion may have jumped around all season, but something never sat right with us about Caleb. We learned that Caleb killed Philip Jessup’s mother when she could provide evidence against Caleb. He also killed his parents, and Catherine lied about his alibi because she had more than just sisterly love for her adopted brother.

The lingering mysteries

Did Caleb Hapstall kill himself? Or is he just the latest in a long line of murders that people have gotten away with on this show? Where did Frank go? Is he gone for good, or will he find his way back to Keating and Associates sometime in the future? And who the hell killed Wallace Mahoney right in front of Wes’ face? The answers to all these questions and many, many more await us in How to Get Away with Murder season 3.
