This season, How to Get Away With Murder is building up to revealing who presumably killed Assistant District Attorney Emily Sinclair and left Annalise Keating bleeding out on the floor.

It seems like every episode we are adding more and more people to the possible list of “Who stabbed Annalise?” It’s actually kind of refreshing — not that attempted murder is refreshing, but to have the classic TV whodunit be about a stabbing instead of a shooting. It certainly adds a higher level of drama.

With a shooting, you could be yards away, and in relative safety. You could also be fairly cold-blooded, calculating, and in control the whole time.

Stabbing, on the other hand, is a whole other animal. For starters, personal jeopardy is an absolute reality. Even if you are physically stronger than the person you are attacking, the tables could get turned quite quickly. It’s way harder to stab someone through layers of clothes than you might think.

On top of that, you have to get up close and personal. You’re looking the victim quite literally in the eye. There is no room for cold feet. It’s totally a crime of intense rage. The crime might have been planned ahead of time, but the intensity of rage needed to carry a stabbing out is scary.

Thing brings us to whodunnit. Who hates Annalise and Emily that much to take them out in a knife attack at the Hapstall mansion?

Catherine Hapstall

It’s a stereotype, but it does have a lot of truth in it: It’s the quiet ones who you always have to watch. Catherine Hapstall is physically fit, even if she is tiny. She also seems to constantly be lurking in corners and eavesdropping. Even if she and Caleb never consummated their relationship, we’re pretty sure they made it to at least third base. She’s got a lot to lose, especially if Annalise realizes that Catherine is the mastermind of her parents’ and aunt’s murders, and Emily then finds out.

Caleb Hapstall

Unlike his sister, Caleb seems to be less in control. His emotions totally rule his actions. We could easily see him fly off the handle if backed into a corner. He doesn’t really like Annalise now that she’s on to his hidden love of his sister. She’s not buying the platonic routine. There’s also the fact that he was out of the house taking a jog when his aunt was killed, leaving him with no alibi. The two people standing in the way of his inheritance are Annalise and Emily.

Zoey Mitchell

Three words: skanks get shanked. Zoey puts the cray in crazy sauce. Since Annalise didn’t get Zoey off the charges of having stabbed her best friend to death, Zoey left the courtroom screaming about what she would do to those she held responsible for her incarceration. She’s also resourceful. She might easily get out of custody and seek revenge upon Annalise and Emily.

Bonnie and Frank

These two could be our very own Bonnie and Clyde. They don’t exactly like each other, but it could be a case of the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Annalise has major blackmail items to hold over both Bonnie and Frank. They might decide to take things into their own hands. The two of them are clever enough to wipe out Annalise and Emily and make it look like the Hapstalls did it. Their problems are then solved.

Asher Millstone

Asher is starting to crack under the strain. He’s now the pawn of Sinclair; he’s always the odd man out with the other students, and he’s managed to mess up his relationship with Bonnie. Asher isn’t really that stable of a guy when he has no support system. Maybe it’s all finally too much for him? As the show constantly reminds us, anyone is capable of anything given the right amount of pressure.

Emily Sinclair

No, that wasn’t a typo. Emily is a type A personality and then some. She can’t stand to lose and will do anything to get her next promotion. What if Annalise humiliates Emily in court to the extent that it destroys her career? Emily might stab Annalise out of revenge, but Annalise isn’t going down without a fight. It could easily be a case of attempted murder and self defense.

Who do you think the ‘How to Get Away with Murder’ assailant is?
