How I Met Your Mother season 9, episode 11, “Bedtime Stories” a.k.a. the “rhyming episode,” airs tonight at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, in which Marshall shares some bedtime stories with baby Marvin.

At its core, How I Met Your Mother is about telling stories. The entire concept of the show is an older Ted telling the story of how me met his children’s mother to his children. But even within that framework, the characters find time to tell stories of their own, offering their own unique flair on each one.

Tonight it’s Marshall’s turn to tell some stories, three of them in fact, about his and his friend’s many exploits in New York. And the fact that these are bedtime stories for baby Marvin is adding an interesting wrinkle: all the stories, and consequently the whole episode, will be in rhyme.

It should be an interesting storytelling mechanism. But even beyond that, just getting out of the stuffy confines of Farhampton should make for an exciting episode, much like this season’s flashback heavy “Platonish.”

James Van Der Beek will also return in this episode as Robin’s ex-boyfriend Simon.
