As part of its San Diego Comic-Con panel for the ninth and final season, How I Met Your Mother opened with a video of Ted Mosby’s kids finally striking back at their long-winded father.

Ted’s seeming inability to tell his two children a story that has anything even remotely to do with how he met their mother has long been a running joke for fans of the show, now entering its ninth and final season.

Finally in a nod to these fans, producers of How I Met Your Mother opened their Comic-Con panel with a video acknowledging that for the past eight years, Ted’s kids (played by the now adults Lyndsy Fonseca and David Henrie) have suffered through many irrelevant stories. Check it out below:

Sure, Ted’s daughter (whose name had better be “Leia”) may know every word to “Let’s Go to the Mall” but she has no idea who the president is. At least Ted appears to have emptied their bathroom bucket from time to time.

Per Entertainment Weekly, producers Craig Thomas, Carter Bays and Pamela Fryman and actors Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Josh Radnor and Alyson Hannigan had other tidbits to offer.

Going off the news that all of season 9 will take place at Barney and Robin’s wedding, the producers revealed that one entire episode will take place over a single slap from Barney and Marshall’s slap bet. Additionally, they heavily teased a final Robin Sparkles appearance as “people sing at a wedding.”

Most importantly, we now know that season nine will debut on September 23, 2013.
