Despite the fact CBS passed on the project for the Fall 2014 season, How I Met Your Dad could end up being revived for Fall 2015.

The show was surprisingly not picked up by CBS for this upcoming season and it failed to find a home elsewhere, but the show may have better luck if it were to be reimagined and shopped around for Fall 2015.

While everything is speculative at this point, a source “close to the project” spoke with TV Line about the show’s future. It sounds like, in order for HIMYD to move forward, the current pilot and direction of the show would have to be scrapped in favor for something the CBS execs can get on board with.

As per TV Line’s article, Nina Tassler, chairwoman of the CBS network, likes working with HIMYM co-creators, Craig Thomas and Carter Bays. When it was announced that Dad was not going to be picked up, she said:

To say we love this show and we love these producers is an understatement. They are beloved, and we have an extraordinary relationship with them. But there were elements in the pilot that didn’t work out.

After nine seasons at the network, we would imagine that her statement about working with Bays and Thomas is not hyperbolic, but how hard they would work to fix HIMYD may not be a priority for the Eye network.

Even if they were to move forward, redevelop the show and place How I Met Your Dad on the Fall 2015 schedule, the current cast’s contracts expire in June.

The show’s development has not exactly been smooth sailing. Fans were perplexed by the decision to develop the project when it was announced this past winter. Weeks after the tumultuously-received How I Met Your Mother finale, Bays and Thomas relocated to New York City to join third creator Emily Spivey and lead actress/writer Greta Gerwig.

Would you want to see ‘HIMYD’ still somehow make it to air?
