CBS announced this morning that they’ve decided to not go forward with the How I Met Your Mother spinoff due to a disagreement with producers.

According to reports and comments from CBS heads this morning, How I Met Your Dad had shot a pilot but CBS asked for a redo. When producers learned that a second pilot didn’t guarantee a series order by the network, they decided it wasn’t worth pursuing.

“There were elements on the pilot that didn’t work out,” CBS’ Nina Tassler said to the media Wednesday morning. “We tried to work out about redoing the pilot. That’s not happening right now. Sometimes you run into these kind of issues and you hope they can resolve themselves in that time frame.”

There is good news for those hoping How I Met Your Dad comes to fruition: CBS’ option on the show ends today, meaning that other networks can pick it up as early as tomorrow. Given How I Met Your Mother’s wild popularity, another network would be wise to pick up the spinoff and guarantee the producers a series order. Netflix? Fox? Are you listening?

Seeing a How I Met Your… show on a network outside of CBS may be strange at first to viewers who were so used to seeing the CBS logo during mother, but time will quickly heal that sort of wound if another network indeed does pick up Dad.

How I Met Your Dad stars Nicholas D’Agosto, Greta Gerwig, Andrew Santino, Tiya Sircar, and Drew Tarver. The show is narrated by Meg Ryan.
