Mark Williams joined Doctor Who as Rory’s father in the “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship” episode. How does his character rate with fans compared to other parental figures?

An ongoing theme in the reboot era of Doctor Who is how the families of the TARDIS companions react to the Doctor and the fantastic situation. Though not the usual reaction, some seem to wish they were on-board as well. For example, Wilfred Mott, Donna’s grandfather, was probably the most embracing of our resident Timelord. Though due to his age, and family concerns, he didn’t specifically travel in the TARDIS. Clive Jones and Silva Noble remained in relative ignorance of the Doctor for much of the time. They only became aware of who he was after other members of their family had more significant encounters. Pete Tyler is a unique case unto himself given the whole parallel universe storyline. It’s hard to assess what his ultimate opinion of the Doctor would have been had he been living with Rose and Jackie in our universe. On the other hand, Jackie Tyler and Francine Jones were positively terrified of their children traveling with the Doctor. They vocalized their strong resistance to their children traveling with the Doctor.

Mark Williams as Brian Williams seem to be completely fine with the Doctor given his limited contact. Presumably, he’s done what no other parent in the reboot era has done, and that’s travel with the Doctor without his child.
