We all love the Disney Classic Peter Pan, right? Well, this Honest Trailer might make you rethink some stuff…

Disney’s Peter Pan was released in 1953, but it holds up surprisingly well today (you know, aside from the old-fashioned voice cast and rampant racism).

But revisiting it through the lens of Screen Junkies‘ Honest Trailers, we’re realizing that the classic animation is a lot creepier than we thought it was:

The obvious thing to point out about Disney’s Peter Pan is of course the institutionalized racism and sexism. It’s terrible by today’s standards, but it sort of serves as a testament to societal norms of the 1950s.

However we feel about Hollywood’s treatment of minorities today, we can all agree that the early Disney Classics really didn’t serve minorities well at all.

But what really blows our mind about this Honest Trailer is the suggestion that Peter Pan might be the Darling children’s actual father! What… but Wendy and Peter… and Tinkerbell trying to keep them apart… this all makes too much sense. Screen Junkies, what have you done?!

(Of course, this is mainly based on the animators’ drawing style, but we have to say, this totally beats the generally accepted reading on J.M. Barrie’s story, which suggests that Hook and Mr. Darling are the same person.)

Also, describing the Lost Boys as, “An all-male group of motherless furries” may have scarred us for life.

This Honest Trailer arrives just in time for Pan, Joe Wright’s Peter Pan origin story starring Hugh Jackman, Rooney Mara, Amanda Seyfried, Garrett Hedlund, and Levi Miller. The movie hits cinemas on October 9, 2015.
