Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo brave the Honest Trailer for The Winter Soldier, with interesting results.

So Captain America: Civil War is now in theaters… in Europe, that is. No spoilers.

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo returned to the MCU after very successfully directing The Winter Soldier, which is generally considered one of the best Marvel movie to date, to tackle the final part of the Cap trilogy.

Of course while Winter Soldier is beloved by most, it has its dissenters, like all big movies do. And while this Honest Trailer was actually pretty positive overall, the Screen Junkies didn’t pull any punches when it came to Cap’s “vaguely defined superpowers,” and other nitpicks.

See it below if you haven’t yet:

As part of the Civil War promotional campaign, the Russos subject themselves to an Honest Trailer viewing party, and were given the chance to do some nitpicking of their own. Can you handle the cringe?

At least the Screen Junkies were actually pretty positive about the Winter Soldier, huh? It’s almost like they knew this day would come…

Aside from the Honest Trailer reactions themselves, there’s also some cool insightful bits by the Russos in there. Joe Russo reveals that Cap was not his favorite superhero growing up, and they actually approached the movie with the intention to “make Cap interesting to a comic book fan.”

They define Black Widow and Cap’s relationship as a “work wife-work husband relationship,” and touch on the “financial impact” that would result from killing anyone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

And there you have it. tl;dr, Winter Soldier was flawless. Let’s hope Civil War can live up to the hype.
