Though the writers made it clear at the end of Homeland season two that Carrie and Brody would likely not see each other for a long time, extra reinforcement comes from star Damian Lewis who says they’re “over.”

Asked about Homeland season three after receiving the Freedom of the City of London last week, Lewis initially did not want to answer any questions about his hit show which kicks off its third batch of episodes this September. “I can’t talk about season three in any way, shape, or form,” he told Digital Spy. But his mouth didn’t stay closed for long.

“I know what’s going to happen so it’s too late,” he said when asked what he wants to see happen. “I know what’s going to happen up to episode six. That’s all the writers know. It’s a much more spontaneous endeavor than you would image.” These comments imply that writing for the third season is well underway and he’s been given the scripts as they’re completed. As far as we know, filming hasn’t yet started.

The interviewer proceeded to ask if he thought Brody (his character) and Carrie will get back together. “I think Brody and Carrie are over,” Lewis said. “I think it’s over. I don’t think those two can be together – can you imagine them being married and bringing up kids? It wouldn’t last long. They’d be in the divorce courts quickly. I don’t think that’s a story that’s got many legs.”

Unless he’s playing with us, considering that Lewis knows half of Homeland season three, it seems he’s certain that Carrie and Brody won’t get back together. This will make for a very interesting season because the storyline will change dramatically.

Homeland season three premieres Sunday, September 29 on Showtime.
